Thinking of an X-trail

Maybe it is just a reaction to spending 2.5 - 3 hours a day for the last 3 years commuting in a 2002 almera but I am thinking about trading it in against an X-trail.

Need room for sprogs and dog, and would expect to get one for 14K for a 2003/4

    any thoughts?

Unless you need to cross fields, you'd be better off with a good estate car. Why punish yourself in terms of comfort, safety and handling for off-road ability you don't need?

I had a SAAB 9-5 auto saloon for a while last year - it really doesn't get much comfier than that.

I did the estate thing for a few years with a Laguna Prestige Supersport, that being said I could be tempted by the Saab!

I am just tired of both being invisible to the clowns who live to pull out in front of me and with not being able to see past the car in front, so maybe a 9-5 with a sunroof and periscope is the answer :-)

Also I seem to be spending more and more time on crappy little roads at weekends, so I like the idea of something with little bit of rough road ability.

I had a 2005 x trail 2litre pertol 2 wheel drive from new. Very heavy on petrol and very bland to drive. Interior was a bit plastic and there were no real extra options on the range at that time. Boot was huge and was comfortable enough on long journeys. Sold it after 18 months. If you are looking at a used one you are better off going for the higher sepc model with leather. If its of any interest to you the NCAP rating for the 2003-04 model is 3 star whilst from 2004 onwards it went up to 4 star.
