If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain? Or someone else?

This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on

Layne Staley - lead singer of Alice in Chains.

Also Dimebag Darrell, guitarist out of Pantera.

Such amazing talent, gone before their time.

possibly not *now* as stuff has moved on, but if there was one i could have prevented from dying, it'd be Buddy Holly. Without a doubt. He was the master, and the recorded output that spanned something like 2 years showed progression the likes of which even the Beatles would have had difficulty maintaining. I'm not sure he'd have branched out into psychedelia, him being a good ol' boy from Lubbock, Texas, but then (controversy ahoy) maybe that would have been a *good* thing...

Jimi Hendrix, no question. He achieved so much in such a short space of time, it's mind-boggling to think what he could have achieved had he lived at least another 10 years.

Just had a look at the results so far, John Lennon in third, John Bonham from Led Zepp in second and Elvis has the most votes at the moment.

I would've thought John Lennon would win this no problem? Freddie Mercury is in forth place, Hendrix is in fifth and Kurt Cobain in sixth.

For me it would be between Bob Marley and Gram Parsons

Bob Marley was the only ever superstar of Reggae so is an obvious choice. Gram Parsons released two albums and there's not a duff track on either of them. The second one is an utter masterpiece. He was a really big influence on the Stones and U2. The Joshua Tree's cover is the tree where his ashes are spread

Elvis and/or Curt Cobain, just so everyone will STFU about them!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭Howard the Duck

    Elliott Smith

    Joe Strummer

Joey Ramone ... because his solo stuff was pretty good... the other ramones well only if they made a new ramones album and if Johnny wasn;t such a dick :)

Only if it was a condition that he *had* to work in conjunction/competition with Paul McCartney. Otherwise you're stuck with his 70's output. It had a sod of a lot of stink about it.

Rory Gallagher, best Irish musician of all time!
One of the greatest guitarists ever imo, visited his grave recently...gone way too soon and it saddens me.

Also Bob Marley, Ian Curtis & John Bonham
