I think that the main reason most of these people are so famous and considered legends is because they died before they'd stopped performing.
Some of the attraction of the music is that you know that you will never hear any more, and you want to soak up all the greatness as best you can.

They were geniuses, don't get me wrong, but most of the reason we want them back is because of the mystery surrounding them.
