Hi I am trying to find Hungarian Unicum in Dublin, do you know of any off licence that sells it?

I've a slightly unhealthy liking for it. Better than Fernet Stock or Becherovka, anyway.

I have a likeing for it aswell. Although I tend to like sour quite a bit.

Tastes like Jager and tonic water to me. :)

I tasted this last Christmas day - my Dad enthusiastically produced a bottle for a pre dinner aperitif having recently returned from Budapest. Never again I tells ya

I love it, it's the only drink I know that everyone who drinks it automatically gets a happy smiling face!
I like Jaeger too but it doesn't have the happy face effect ...

I have bottles of unicum and Becherovka, it's great trying them out on the unwary. "u gotta throw it back in one, now ":D

never tried them as a hangover cure, i don't think i've ever been that desperate.....

Nast nasty stuff, do Hungarians call it their national drink simply so they can watch tourists faces when they drink it

ps there's also what appears to be a version aimed at trendies called Unicum Next (it tastes the same as far as I can remember)

Is there anywhere you can order special drinks from? The drink I'm looking for in particular is Zwack or Unicum as it's called. It's the national drink of Hungary. Is it even legal to do so? Any ideas?

Unicum tastes of pure herbacious evil. If you can imagine what all that foliage in Vietnam that was drenched in Agent Orange tastes like, you're halfway there.

Yes it's legal to order drinks from abroad but you're liable to pay duty on it.

I see Unicum for sale on DrinkOn.com, but they only deliver to UK addresses. SendLiquor.com in the States has it available internationally but the price is ridiculous. Have you exhausted all local avenues? I'm sure some bricks-and-mortar drink specialists in Ireland sell it.

The problem is most chains of off-licences near me don't sell unicum and they order off a wholesaler. So They wouldn't specially get this in for me. Having said that, there is a Fine Wines further away that I'll give a try. Is there any special brick-and-mortar stores that'll get this for me? I don't mind travelling to get this stuff. I'm going to try DrinkOn.com and SendLiquor.com on the weekend. Hopefully all will go well! And as someone else said, yes it is one of the worst tasting drinks in the world. Don't know why I love it so much...

Unicum, Fernet Stock, Fernet Branca, Amaro, Becherovka, etc. are all bitters, maybe an acquired taste but TBH I don't know how you could think them any worse than anything at 40-60%. Certainly quite fond of them myself. I'd be surprised if you didn't find whiskey pretty disgusting first time you tried it, but we tend to forget this if the first time you tried it was as a teenager :D

Jägermeister is a sort of sweetened version of the same thing which I reckon has allowed it be more immediately palatable and thus more popular.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Unicum somewhere, maybe in Redmonds in Ranelagh or the Celtic Whiskey Shop, it is a pretty distinctive bottle.
