Zyxel firewall question

After months of frustration trying to work out why I couldn't get BBC radio on my computer I think I've located the source of my problem. I turned off the firewall on my Zyxel router and it comes through perfectly.
My question is, am I opening my computer to risk of viruses etc by turning off this firewall.
If so, is there a way that I can set the firewall at a level at which it will allow BBC but still protect me as far as possible.
There is a Firewall - Threshold section in the Zyxel configuration but I don't know if it is relevant or what the headings mean.
    Any advice much appreciated
