hi everyone, hoping someone can give me some advice on this. i have a site which i am seeking planning permission for currently. there is an existing house on it, a small cottage which i have discovered has asbestos slates on it. this set me into a panic to be honest, is it very dangerous? the architect seemed quite relaxed about it and said it just needed to be dealt with properly by a contractor but nothing unusual for an old house. what do people reckon, is it very dangerous and also how do i go about getting it removed when the time comes? any contractor suggestions in cork, i'd love if people could PM suggestions of companies if its not allowed to post them. would it be an expensive issue to deal with? thanks and sorry for all the questions!

your architect is right . don't over react . asbestos materials when intact cause no harm . the danger arises if the material is broken up when the risk of ingesting pariticles arises . roofing slates may be removed with great care
    BUT THEN
    • carefully stacked away from all other site waste
    • carefully wrapped in polythene sheeting
    • removed from site only by a waste removal contractor who is licenesd by the local authority to do so

    Don't worry.
    Its the dust thats dangerous.

Have them removed by a specials contractor in the phone book or ring your L.A
Removed from site by a licenced waste removal contractor.
