    Where things grow/survive

    This morning I just noticed this nettle growing on a broken branch of tree which had fallen into the Liffey!

    Sorry to anyone who voted - but I deleted the earlier 'egret photos' - the blown out whites were doing my head in.

    Hi Splish,
    The Common Figwort was a plant I saw for the first time in Pollardstown Fen several years ago.It was growing along a well trodden pathway,but when the NPWS decided to upgrade the pathways a couple of years ago,they/their contractors unwittingly covered up the area where they were growing and sadly I've not seen this plant there since then!:(

    They can vary in colour,and yes that's a Common Spotted Orchid.

    Yeah - I think his nose is a bit out of joint as Canoe Ireland are doing a lot of excavation/rock placing work* around 'his' weir at Lucan Demesne in order to build a 'hanging slalom'course.

    *In full consultation with all vested interests including EPA and conservation bodies.

    It's a juvenile Long-tailed Tit.
    The red ring around the eyes is more pronounced on younger birds.
