I think its a fungus gnat (Sciara sp). Could be something like Sciara hemerobioides.

Really nice hover fly shots, is it my imagination or is there
an abundance of these little fellas around at the moment?

I've just noticed thousands of them in my garden for the first time yesterday. They were landing on the leaves of a bamboo plant I have and crwling on them over and over again.

Seems like it ... there's loads of them in the garden, a few in the house and also in my conservatory, although they're busy pollinating my chilli plants in there so I don't have a problem with that :)

They seem pretty 'tame' too (if you can say that of a fly!) in as much as you can pick them up easily and put them outside .. they just sit on your hand or finger until you get outside and set them free.

Caught this one feasting on a drop of honey I let fall on the kitchen worktop yesterday ...

I have it recorded as an African Fish Eagle

Spotted these at the side of a road, They must have been at least 10 inches tall.
    Can anyone identify them?
