That's a very small group of hibernating Ladybirds. They usually gather in much larger groups. The location is odd, not due the elevation but, because they usually choose under logs, in the hollow stems of plants, under bricks or stones, or in sheds and garages.

Taken in Stephens Green on Friday. Thought someone threw a rock at me as it dived by my face to nail the pigeon.
Lived in the countrywide for 20 years and had to come to Dublin to see something like this! Taken with all i had, a 35mm prime from about 2 feet away!

That 35mm lens makes the whole scene more dramatic than if it was a taken with a long lens

In an effort to discourage the larger birds from wolfing down all the seeds - I have put up a few mini-barriers. It doesn't take the smaller birds long to figure it out and their size makes it easier for them also.

Bull Island can hold peregrine, merlin, kestrel and short eared owl at this time of year.

Thanks, yes, I have a fairly good idea of where they are. But I struggle to see them.

Even when I go with groups it takes me a while to see them, when others spot them more quickly.

On the other hand, I am told I have a good eye for the small garden birds like wren, goldcrest, treecreeper, etc.

Never mind, will see if I have better luck today :)

The wader flocks will often get flushed when a raptor is around, especially with peregrine. People with their dogs often do the same thing though:mad:
