A very very cold river Boyne in Drogheda. You could hear the ice crackling is it rubbed off the banks.

Thankfully the swans have a short respite from the cold, but Christmas Day was no fun for them

    Hi,
    Nice photos Bagmagnet.
This species of bird pays us a visit from time to time. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Need help identifying this bird that hangs around my garden. He's bigger than a blackbird, not as big as a crow, similar in size to a pigeon. Tried to get close to him, but he wasn't having it. kept flying away to another tree.he was making a weird call when I was around. never heard it before.

Since we've put up a feeder and fat balls we've had an array of visitors flocking to it, and this morning when I looked out I saw our resident pheasant having a peck at the leftovers. Not great pictures, sorry, but our windows are too dirty  and my camera isn't good.

All the little birds had flown off while he was there, but the blackbird wasn't scared :) of course they learnt after a while that they'd be running out of leftovers when there were no little birds to get at the seed etc...

Not sure, but I think that's a fieldfare

    Hi Bagmagnet,
Looks like a hooded crow to my naive eye... (even though you say probably not)

I think Bagmagnet is correct. The general shape/silhouette is thrush shaped. You can make out a grey hood, the brown on mantle, the gray lower back/rump and the black tail.

First ever Blackcap to visit the garden:

Also, need some help identifying this bird, spotted it quite far away, so the picture isn't great. It could be a greenfinch, though It's confusing me a bit. You can't see the colours too well in the photo, but it was quite yellow:

This Snipe visited our garden during the cold snap, haven't seen him since though. Hopefully he'll return again!
