Yes agree there goldfinch is another one, I've only ever seen a tree creeper once it was too quick to get a proper look.

Same as that, I've only ever seen a tree creeper once and it was last year and in the main house of the Botanic Gardens of all places. Lovely summers day, plenty of windows open, so presumably he nips in and out of there regularly.

Seems to be very mature fawn for this time of the year. I dont know is it going redish colouring or coming out of it.

I read somewhere that they dont be born for at least another month?

Cute little things. Lots of Sika around this area with the last few years. I saw a Sika fawn a few years ago while out cycling and it was a dark red, brown and was spotted tiny little thing. Beautiful and lovely evening light.

    No camera tho.

Its been on the list since.

Nice colour and pattern in the wagtail picture too...

Saw my first pheasant (first in Lucan Demesne that is) today on the far bank and was intrigued to watch him dig a hole with his beak and legs and indeed wings...and then sit in it!!

Went looking on google for a possible explanation : I quote

Like many birds, Pheasants take frequent dust baths, raking their bills and scratching at the ground, shaking their wings to sweep dust and sand into their feathers, lying on their sides and rubbing their heads. Dust-bathing probably removes oil, dirt, parasites, dead skin cells, old feathers, and the sheaths of new feathers.

Hadn't seen my friends the reed buntings for a few days and assumed they had gone back fulltime to the Rye, Royal Canal or Liffey - all of which are quite close.

Then this evening at 7.05pm newtime - this guy appeared outside the kitchen window. I was peeling a few carrots at the time but got the camera and took a pic..he just looked around for a while and then took off.

I feel really privileged to have had him and his mates in the garden for 4/5 months and pretend to myself that when looking in the window he was saying .. 'thanks for the seeds during those cold winter months and see you next year':)

PS - only for this site I would not know a reed bunting from any other bird!

The 2 smallest birds in Ireland. The goldcrest weights 5g. Less than a 20c coin.
