    Lucan Demesne

My first time seeing one of these! A Wood Duck I believe.
That is a branch of a fallen tree and is only a foot or so above the water.
I waited for a while in the hope that it might take to the water... but it seemed quite happy where it was.

Just trying to find out a little about the Wood Duck.... it seems to be a native of North America?
Anyone got any ideas as to how one would end up sitting on a tree branch along the Liffey?

I took this a few years ago now, but here's a photo of what I think is Brachytron pratense, Hairy Dragonfly. Someone more knowledgeable on dragonflies might correct me on the i.d.

Some more of the Raft Spider today

    7S5D4681.jpg

Two things about this pic. The shadow of the surface tension under it 'feet' is cool to see, and the cloudy white patch it has left behind under the blade of grass. I didn't notice it at the time, but I presume it has just spun the silk straight into the water?

I spotted this little Wheatear as I was leaving, my first of the year. Also the most confiding I've ever found.
