the bottom two were taken through a window so are not as good.

hopefully ill have better ones tomorrow.
the birds seemed to know i had a decent camera and wouldnt pose for me.

ya exactly.

was planning on getting one of these fuji's for a while.
the optical zoom was what i was really going for.
you are at nothing with one of those compacts trying to take photos of something that is more than a few feet away.
plus its has hd video mode on it which might come in handy.

got it delivered with a 4gig card for just under 200 so happy out with it so far.

I have a good few of those guys visiting my feeding table every day. I think it is a reed-bunting. hard to get a good picture of them as they move pretty fast. Need a fast camera.

fairly certain its a reed bunting alright. there is a big group of about 20 or so about a field away, always seem to see them there anyway.
must venture up with the camera to see can i get better shots.

a diver of some sorts, but im not sure what.

Apologies for the bad quality, he was a long way away, and i only had my all rounder lens.

maybe it is but they practically talk to me for it.

i have had some birds taking it from the end of the knife that i use to spread it around.

they follow me around outside till i put out some for them.

Note very prominent supercillium(white stripe above eye). Photo a bit blurred to see red flanks.

Great Northern diver: (GNT)
Birds which can be confused with are common wintering red throated diver (RTD)and rarer wintering black throated diver (BTD).
The RTD is smaller but always hold it's bill tilting upward. The other two divers hold their bill horizontal.
The BTD has distinct white flashes on the flanks when on water, the GND does not.
The wintering GND has a distinct black half-collar on neck with white notch above (your photo shows it well), while the BTD does not have this feature.
You will see wintering divers/loons off the coast (only rarely will you see them on inland waters in winter).
There was a mega rare white billed diver in Cork harbour at christmas, but alas I couldn't find it:(
