Any tips for spotting them up in Lucan Demesne? I want to see them in the wild and have a couple of days off coming up...

After I took that photo( above) of the duck framed by a broken branch with some river debris attached - I walked 30/40 metres further along the River.

I spotted a kingfisher flying back in the direction I had come from and tried to follow its flight.

    Where did it land???

On that broken branch I had in close-up focus 2 minutes earlier Grrh

Forgive my nettle/iris obsession. Photos showing progress since last year. Lack of management of previous years really shows.

    2hgwgtu.jpg
Nettle bed 2014. Full of ranks grass. No extra nettle were added for 2 years.

    x1zg9k.jpg
Nettle bed 2015. Near 100% nettles. Rank grass cut away by hand, nettle rhizomes and sods added. Sprayed with 0.5% round-up and 10-10-20

    14btkrn.jpg
Iris bed 2014. Not mowed down and rank grass growth not removed. Iris growth poor.

    30hqyrp.jpg
Iris bed 2015. Mowed down in November and any residual rank growth cut away by hand. Each spike of iris got 10-10-20 in Spring

    2w1sait.jpg
2nd nettle bed. No nettles just rank grass. 2014

    b63407.jpg
2nd nettle bed. Nettles starting to take over. Mowed, sprayed and slash hook used to remove stubborn grass mats.

I think that is a picture of a Med gull. The picture quality isn't the clearest but I think it is a 2nd year bird....
