Well - after Splish saying that there are 1000's of hoverflies etc - I would not hazard a guess- but just to say this guy was not in the least bit white when he went into the flower- so I presume this is pollination in action?

I'm home now and I can see more detail on the bee, and it does look like a dusting of pollen on its head and back, on the phone it just looks like a white bee....

Main reason I felt I needed a ( reasonably priced)longer lens was that I am now using a full frame camera.
So my 300mm which evolved into a 450mm with my previous DX camera is now back to a miserly 300mm with full frame.
Similarly the 400mm( nikon zoom) is back from 600mm with the DX to 400mm(at max extension) with the FX.:)

Here's one( now two) from a while back( but not put up here before).

I've looked through any of my decent Jay photos since I read on the Birdwatch site that Ireland has its own distinct race of Jay
    (Garrulus glandarius hibernicus) .

So, the Jay is one of only three (or possibly four) recognised Irish bird sub-species.

    YAY for the( Irish) JAY:)

Female Sparrowhawk feeding on a Woodpigeon
I found a freshly killed Woodpigeon in a field yesterday evening, but there was no sign of a predator about. I reckoned the predator would return, so I hid in a nearby hedgerow, and after what seemed an eternity, this female Sparrowhawk arrived on the scene. She spent almost twenty minutes or more plucking the feathers before feasting. I've uploaded this footage on the "Some videos I took recently" thread.

    Thanks keps!
Patience is something I thought I didn't have, but you certainly need it in this game! I was waiting for quite some time, and was about to head off when I noticed several pheasants (males and females) in the corner of the field; distracted by the pheasants, I didn't see the arrival of the Sparrowhawk, so you can imagine my surprise.

I really don't know where the kingfishers 'hangout'.
I do a walk and wait most mornings along the Lucan Demesne stretch of the Liffey.
Somedays I don't see one at all, other days I catch a glimpse of one in flight.
And on lucky days I see one 'settle' in a position where I can get a decent pic. A lot of patience and luck involved.:)

Edit> BTW the first photo above was taken with the zoom @320mm.
