Second one is a Juvenile Collared Dove.

Thanks Jazlyn Incalculable Yo-yo...in fact I was on the verge of posting again to say that I think it must be a collared dove as they are the only species on the ground in the garden at the moment

By co-incidence a wood pigeon ( along with a few other birds ) has landed in the garden.

I was thinking of putting down some food in a very open position where he'd have no chance of creeping up....would that work?

I have a ground feeder with a cage over the same as this ...

I don't put seed on the ground - but some birds, particularly sparrows, just toss loads of seeds they don't like from the feeders onto the ground so they can get at the ones they prefer.... and then other birds eat the seeds on the ground.

Also I have 3 ultrasonic deterrents around the garden which seem to be working well ( no family pets )

count them! I'm going to have to cut down the nijer and sunflower seeds and increase the peanuts to give the other birds a look in! An entire feeder of sunflower seeds gone in just over 24 hours...they eat better than I do

You're certainly laying on a great spread for your birds there ! Costly too, especially if you have flocks of Goldfinches and Greenfinches descending on your garden, but fabulous to watch ! Real bullies when it comes to the feeders though - my house sparrows don't get a look in with the finches !

A Good selection of Birds today in the Garden given the bad weather , I had the Robin , Blackbird , Starlings , Sparrows , Doves and today , the Most Goldfinches that I have seen in the Garden to date, there was 7 in total. The Sparrows are by far the most numerous bird followed by the Starlings. I will have to see if there is a feeder that the Sparrows cant dump all the food out of, they keep emptying my feeders and there is a pile of seed under them on the ground....

It wasn't a great day for taking Photographs the cloud cover kept it quite dark for the day so High ISO had to be used , which creates grainy photos....

Yes I think i'll have to have peanuts only on one stand to try and kept the Goldfinches separate. I hardly get any sparrows and the Tits have to zoom in quick when they get a chance.
