    Wish me Joy :)

After 2 weeks of filling in the survey with 'same old, same old - even though I love them all)- at last a solo new arrival today.

I know it's a common bird - but for me it was great to see it as I only saw one last year(winter) and that was in February.

The light was so bad this is taken at 3200 ISO - so forgive the grain

The are Redpolls. Notice the red on the crown of the bird. Siskins are a green/black colour. Always a treat to see in the garden

ah, so they are.... had three this morning and I guess these are two of them. Had Siskins all day too and the usual crew. It's funny to see both types muscling on the dozens of Goldfinches!

I've never clapped eyes on a redpoll ever, do they only hang out in certain areas of the Country?

What a rare sight especially by day. It must be starving to be hunting by day.

Was out this morning and spotted this bird, at first I thought it was a grebe as it was diving so I waited until it surfaced . I have never seen any of these before and had to look it up in one of my Bird books , its called a Red Breasted Merganser and per the book it spends most of its time at sea. Great to see one here and it is nicely colored with a deep red eye.

North Co Cork. I live at the edge of the Town with fields and an old railway line behind me, a good habitat probably

A couple of hundred miles Northwest and I've never had a Redpoll here in Mayo but lots of Siskins and my usual brood of Goldfinches are missing too. Still warm enough up on the mountain presumably.

    TT

Yes sounds like a good spot , Im in North Co Dublin , there used to be lots of fields near the house but in the last 10 - 15 years we have been swallowed up in Development , so now in the middle of housing estates the nearest fields are about a mile away. I would love to get out into the countryside again to live, but have family and commitments that hold me here . I'll have to do with getting out on the weekends....
