I've never heard the word 'peeweep' before, but Lapwings were often called Peewits.

Peeweep is an old name in Lincolnshire and East Anglia for a Lapwing or Peewit. Using it for an Oystercatcher or Sea Pie is a mis-remembering of the name.

Would you believe it- the Sparrow-Hawk appeared in the garden again today... I had to go scurrying for my camera and again the photos are taken through the double-glazing!
Not too sure what its plan is, as at any given time there can be 20 or more birds at the feeders or on the ground( including Collared Doves quite often).
In the photo it is perched just about 5 feet above one of the feeders which is hanging from a branch.

PS – is this a male or female?

Is it unusual to see two Robins together or is a fight imminent?

Also, why haven't I seen any female Robins?

Robins will tolerate others as food gets scarcer. You will see Detante around the feeding stations for another month or two.

These could be females, as sexes are alike.

Noticed a Long Eared Owl having a bit of a snooze on the electric fence in the back garden at 6am. Got as close as I could without disturbing the bird but could have done with a decent camera.

I love owls and these pics are great - thanks.
