Colours on a magpie are also beautiful but a menace is still a menace

Next door neighbour's cat sleeps in the magpie nest in our tree.I'm fascinated to find out the outcome of this in a few months, when the pies want it back!

    Mod Edit: <snip> </snip>
Got my knuckles smacked by Mod & quite rightly so.

I really like your Traffic Control Issues - how long did you have to watch to get the shot?

I like this shot, but how does that fit with the "rule of thirds" with such a bold line dividing the picture in two?.... I like to think that the face is in the right place and that's what matters with a close up bird picture. What do you think?

Savage some of you pics are great but are not pin sharp which detracts from the framing. That siskin is a typical example. Nice framing even though the vertical twig is on the wrong side but not sharp and maybe a tiny bit out of focus.

If your lens is not up to close ups from distance then pull the shot out a bit and see if that helps the sharpness. Carry on though - its all a learning curve and some of you pics are still good.

    TT

If your cropping ST, Try portrait mode, I prefer that style of pic with the bird in that position.

Theres no rules in photography :)

the sharpness issue is because many of them are taken through glass and I don't think that helps a lot, short of building a hide, can't do much about that. They are also on maximum zoom and I think that doesn't help either.

    Mod Note:

It's a photo thread - someone asked for advice re: a photographic rule of thumb, various users offered constructive criticism. The original user in question has not indicated to the Mods that they have any problem with it. I think this thread is a perfectly ok place to ask for comments and critiques, to compare techniques, and to ask for advice. If it gets to a stage where comments are de-railing a thread the Mods will move them to a separate thread.

Coal Tit. He's on the bars of an old Guinea Pig run, trying to gain access, which he eventually achieved by slipping though the bars....they are so tiny!
