hey keps, theres badgers down there too! not so easy to snap them though. i see buzzards a lot too but hard to get close to them.id love to know what other hard to spot mammals are there. any otters? i hear stuff darting through the undergrowth at the bank of the river but never see anything. either way its a great place for wildlife.

I haven't seen any badgers or otters- though some regulars tell me that otters are to be seen from time to time. I have seen buzzards ok - but too high up to get a clear shot.
    Great amenity ok

Are people getting getting ' email reply messages' to posts on boards?

Mistle thrush? If you pay attention to the head, it is more like a triangle than rounded. It also seems to have striped going from the neck to the head. Exactly like keps' photo.

I also noticed that this bird is slightly bigger than the usual Song thrush.

    Can anyone validate?

Yes Mistle. Head shape is not a great diagnostic though.

    This might help.

Update from Anaclann Dúlra an Traonaigh. Planted 350 kg of nettle rhizomes in my nettle beds. Rotovated the bare patches that were previously sprayed. Got 7000kg of spent mushroom compost from the dump and covered rhizomes. Compost smells like raw sewage but grows powerful nettles. Gently raked away any rank growth from established nettle areas.

I'm not sure what it is. The slightly red cap on the head has me puzzled.
Can anybody ID it for me?

Thanks Nightforce 65x55. I had looked at Redpoll in my Collins Bird Guide but my bird seemed slimmer with a lot more red on the head. Not a great day yesterday for good video clips anyway, I screen grabbed the best frames. I'll set up my Nikon P510 and try again if the sun ever comes out.

not a great picture due to dreadful weather but I thought I'd share as this Siskin was well able to take advantage of the situation.

I did go out in the storm and refill three feeders as the others were getting overcrowded... I hope they appreciate it

what do you think ? Moorhen? had a clockwork type head movement and an orange bill. The flooded field is home to him and a couple of dozen Mallard tonight

I don't often get Rooks, but a couple of toast crusts thrown out attracted this guy. They are watching, and this guy has his eye on me!

Field flooded again today....definitely a Moorhen!

    mx08cl.jpg

Now been joined by some of the locals.....I added this picture to show just how far away the Moorhen was , explaining the poor picture!

    2vdfiwh.jpg

further edit....the Mallards have arrived. Actually further away than the Moorhen
