    Dodder
I was photographing a static moorhen and had the shutter speed set a 1/100 when this fella suddenly appeared.
Image is hopelessly blurred and I would not have bothered posting it except that on looking at it on my computer- I noticed a kingfisher in flight in the foreground( again very blurred)
If only I had suitable settings on the camera:rolleyes:

By the time I got the ISO/Shutter speed up on the camera – the otter was disappearing into the distance- then disappeared

Managed to get a few better photos of the otter today- but have to say it is an elusive creature

Always heading for the shadows when above water

The litter in that second otter pic is scandalous.

Totally agree - and that is not the worst of the places I've seen on my walks along the Dodder
Is there any way to get the powers that be to do something? Or is it left to a voluntary ' clean up day' ( which could be quite dangerous).

Contact the environment section of the council. Quote the wildlife you have photographed there.

The Dodder Action Group have fairly regular clean-up days along stretches of the Dodder. They do a great job - crazy amount of litter they manage to get each time.

I was on my way to meet keps, and bumped into the family....very challenging to photograph them with low light, small sensor and constant movement, but what a jow to watch them!

Yes, the mother caught it and gave it to the cubs.

You will bump into them again for sure, I'd say they will be regulars in the area.

They're regulars in the area for sure, but I spent a couple of years down around that part of the Dodder and was always looking out for them and only saw them a few times! They can be quite secretive when they want to be! :D

Think your Goldcrest is actually a Chiffchaff. Some do winter in Ireland but still a good record

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭keps

@Delly Belly- thanks for that.. I m not the best at identification:)

Think I'm on safer ground with this one taken today nearby as I think I can just see a hint of the crest

I sent the photo to Customer Service who have replied saying they have arranged for their pollution section to investigate asap - probably the last of it:rolleyes:

Anyway I sent them on this photo also- taken today at the Waterfall - Milltown

Beautiful, beautiful egret, but the state of that place is the stuff nightmares are made of!

A family group of Whooper Swans on Lough Ree in Roscommon a few weeks ago. From what I've seen the number of juveniles and brood sizes all look very good this year. Lots of broods of three or more young!

You may remember the pics of the otter and egret with the atrocious litter

I forwarded the pics to the council expessing my concern for wildlife welfare

    The reply:

I refer to your e-mail below in regard to the litter on the R. Dodder and the impact it may be having on the survival of otters on the river.

My colleague Niamh Ní Cholmain ( Tel: 2223369) works closely with a number of volunteer groups, including The Dodder Action Group, who undertake various projects along the R. Dodder including regular clean ups of the river.

If you wish to get more information on these projects or wish to become a volunteer please contact Niamh at your convenience.

    Kind regards,
