The ' Dodder Action Group' had a Photo day today( 20/8)
They asked all interested to take photos along the Dodder- with the best to be shown at an exhibition in the hall in Herbert Park at a later date

Thankfully I started early - as the weather was quite good- but deteriorated rapidly
I walked a long distance- but as often happens - my favourite is only 50 metres from home- A Dipper I haven't seen for 2 months:)

Beetle? Scarab? Whatever it is, I found it drowned in the water butt. Once again, unfortunately the phone camera (and my lack of skills) don't do it justice, it highlights only the metallic bronze-like hues and doesn't show the peacock blue-green tone. And again, it's out of focus in most of the photos. In reality, it's gorgeous, it really is like a jewel. :)

EDIT: I've "dis-embedded" (if that's even a word) the last two pictures, they're too much out of focus, but if you'd still like to see them I've left them as attachments).

    Autumn is definitely here.

I've had a comment that it's too early to feed the birds, there's lots of youngsters about who need feeding up for the winter so I disagree.
This is my new feeding station complete with crow guard (not yet proven to work)

That's fairly ingenious, Isambard. :D I must take a pic of my feeding station. I leave it open to all. I get crows, magpies, pigeons collared doves and even big old seagulls, as well as the smaller birds. The only disadvntage re my system is it's fairly demanding on my purse, as I have to replenish it fairly often - every day, in fact. :( LOL!

    damned with faint praise :-)

it's the purse reason why the cage went up..... not that I have a purse, just a manly bill fold.

    :-)

Current data shows garden feeding is better if done all year round. I've been feeding all year for decades.

yeah I would ahve done that only they stopped coming for the food and it went mouldy...they're back now as the photo shows . I noticed them visiting the old, empty feeders so I put up a new full one as an experiment

It can slow down here in summer and I put out less but it never stops.

Here is one I made earlier,
    DSCN3829_zpsn1i14san.jpg

Feeder tray mounted on the fence with black sunflower seeds. Frame of old timber hinged on top. Grid from plastic trellis, about 45mm squares. Excludes anything larger than starlings.

similar here; though i usually only put out standard seed mix in the summer. tried mealworms, but the starlings would mob the feeder and empty it in ten minutes.

PhotoBucket is dead for 3rd party hosting ie. displaying on sites like boards.ie. They disabled it, thus trashing users' posts all over the net and then they say stump up $400pa to the angry punters for the feature. What are they smoking?

    Try Flickr or other options.
