I could hear this Whooper Swan in the distance, sounded pretty distressed. Met two lads who came from its direction, they said two Mutes were attacking it.

Can anybody help identify this little fella? He's only about 1.5 mm in size. I was taking some macro shots of moss and spotted him weaving away.

Hi Greg, the closest I can find in one of my books is Erigone Atra one of the Dwarf Spiders Linyphiidae though I could be mistaken...../Mick

Thank you, mikka631. I have seen glimpses of those in my garden, but they are very fleeting, certainly impossible for me to photograph. Again - thanks!

That is a lovely male whinchat. A nice find as there isn't many spots in the country where you can find these beauties...

    Hawthorn Shield Bug?

Had an omelet under the grill at the time when I scooped it out of the kitchen, so couldn't spend long fiddling with depth of field. Was just lucky to have the macro lens on the camera!

I would guess Chiffchaff or Willow warbler for the first one, hard to tell without hearing its song.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,951 ✭✭✭spookwoman

Found this vid on how to tell chiffchaffs and willow warblers apart. Legs, cheacks, under belly etc. I thinks its a willow didnt hear the chiffchaff sound at all.

    heres another shot
