Don17- out of interest, what's the intended use? Unless you are going to be taking it off-road you would probably be better off with a standard road bike. I have something similar myself; in my case I wanted clearance for wide tyres to allow light off-roading while on tour, and I have a road bike anyway. But my road bike is definately nippier.

I'd be using it mainly for commuting and then at the weekend for a couple of road spins.
Although I do sometimes like going off roadish, nothin too serious, maybe the odd dirt track here and there.
I'm just thinkin I want a bike to cover everything but in fairness my trips offroad are few and far between.
I was also lookin at a Specialised Sirrus.
Have a Giant CRS 2.5 at the moment and lookin to upgrade to something a little bit faster

    thanks

To be honest if you want faster I would look at a road bike. However a cross bike does have benefits for some of your intended uses.

The advantage of a cross bike will be that many are very versatile, will take big tyres, rack and mudguards, etc. A rack would be a big plus if commuting is a big use for the bike. (Mudguard wise I wouldn't say there is much of a difference- you can use race blades on a road bike and they work very well.)

I'd weigh up how likely/often you are going to be doing off-road. If it is mainly going to be on-road you will want to swap the tyres for narrow slicks in which case you won't be comfortable going off-road with it. It does mean however you have the option of sticking the wider tyres back on if you plan on doing something involving off-road sections.

A cross bike with the tyres changed for narrow slicks will probably be faster than a Sirrus.

Maybe PM ROK_ON- he has a Tricross, lovely bike, but when talking to him he reckons he was mis-sold and should have got a road bike.

    don

I have a cyclocross bike that I would be willing to let go for e350.

I bought the bike a few years ago for exactly the same reason as you are now looking ie to ride mainly on the road but to occasionally ride off road.

I have been looking to change as it is a 58 cm frame which is just a smidge too big for me and would like a 56cm road bike (would consider a swap??).

    Spec is as follows:

    Cougar steel frame 58cm
    Simtema Muddy Fox Carbon fork
    Scuzzy Logic Headset
SRAM 9.0 Canti Brakes (with cyclocross levers)
Campagnolo Mirage 9 speed groupset (triple)

She's a nice bike to ride, hasn't seen a lot of use as i'm mostly mountain biking. I've mainly used it in a few triathlons and it has mostly seen dry miles, so its in good nick. The second set of brake levers are dead handy. As with all cross bikes, the main difference is the bottom bracket is slightly higher off the ground giving a little more clearance, and there are no bottle cage holes as the 'triangle' is kept clear so you can sling it over your shoulder (although you will see I have a bolt on one on this bike)

There should be an edit button at the bottom of the post, and if not, PM a mod.

I think this is just a little overblown, have you ever seen this horror of a site. People advertise on Buy&Sell (on the interwebs) all the time and stick their phone number up, no problem. TBH I'd be more worried about sticking up your email as this can be scraped by spam bots.

@boomdocker- looks like a nice bike, good deal at €350.
