That jersey and its variations sold three times more than expected even up to the end of the 6N this year.

Why does a rugby playing shirt need a collar?
What else are you going to pop?

According to their site, Leinster are using their pre-season against the Queensland Reds as "Greenday" (not the band!), to promote awareness of environmental issues among supporters.
As part of the day, Ecocem, a company which specialises in producing cement which leaves a smaller carbon footprint, are off-setting the carbon footprint of the Queensland Reds return flights, and are also offsetting 6 tons of carbon for every point scored.

In order to reduce the impact on the environment of paper, the match programme will only be available via Bluetooth to your mobile, and paperless ticketing is in operation.

There will also be a bike park in operation within the ground for anyone travelling to the ground by bicycle.

To mark the occasion the team will wear a specially commissioned green kit.

Seems like an interesting idea, with the paperless tickets and the bluetooth match programme.

Has anyone seen this green kit or know if it will be on sale to the general public?

I saw this today and thought initially it was a pisstake, utterly bizarre...

Any pics of the green jersey?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,193 ✭✭✭[Jackass]

No, but I'd imagine people will go to see that alone!! It's being kept a closley gaurded secret and according to the questions on the Leinster site it will not be sold either...but I'm sure if it proves popular it might be...

Imagine Leinster turned to Green properly...I wouldn't be fully apposed to that...it was our origional colour..(although I am a fan of the blue)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

I think the green would be confusing with Connaght. I'm also a fan of the blue, although as I mentioned I'd like to see a bit more gold incorporated into the kit's design.

I like the fact that the four provinces have distinctly different colours, although it will be interesting to see the green Leinster jersey.

Love the new Leinster Training jersey! Would love it as our proper jersey! About time the gold is brought back throughout the kit!

As far as I know they are relaunching the new Leinster site at the end of this month which is why a lot of the details on the current site have not been updated, but you will be able to buy this. If not in the shops then it will more than likely be available on the new Leinster site and various online rugby shop websites.

You can always get the training jersey.

I will 100% be getting this jersey and wearing it to games. The last jesey I got was the 2005/06/07 Jersey, didn't like last seasons one and dont like this seasons one...I have all the T-Shirts, polo tops and supporters jersey from last season, fecking tracksuit, rain jacket, the works!! haha, but this is by far the nicest piece of Leinster gear I've seen.

I even prefer it to the jersey I have at the moment, which is my favourite Leinster jersey of all time.

The sports shop in the Superquinn center in Blackrock (Active Sports?) have some of the poly jerseys. I'm holding out for the test shirt.

I initially thought I liked it but it now looks like a feckin' S14 jersey. All it needs is a big "FORD" logo on the front and it would look like a 'Canes or Auckland jersey IMO :o

nice munster shirt ok but are munster supporters not outraged, munster colours are red and navy not red and black, their new home strip is red and black also, went to buy the new leinster home shirt sarurday in champion sports, 130 euro, are these priced right, a bit expensive for replica shirt.

There isn't a new home strip this year. I do wish that training jersey was red and navy though. Black has been introduced this year to differentiate us from the Lions gear.

I bought that red and black number at the weekend and have to say that I love it. It's gotten a hugely positive response from people who've seen me wearing it too. They were selling very well inside in the Munster Rugby store on Saturday morning. Munster and Adidas must be making a mint out of jersey and merchandise sales.

New home strip? They wore red and navy against the US the other day - http://www.munsterrugby.ie/19_8364.php

After playing in the navy jersey for the 2008 Heineken cup final, it's a bit ridiculous now that they have introduced black into the Munster colour range. Think of all the fans that went away and bought the navy jersey for the final.
In my own personal opinon the whole Munster saga is turning into a bit of a farce. I've been following them throughout Europe and at home for the last 10 years and it seems lately it's turning into a complete money making scheme. Granted there is a new stadium to fund but there has been a lot of new professional advisory positions created within the Munster setup. For example Jerry Holland remains on in an advisory role to Shaun Payne. Two salaries for 1 position. I just hope the Munster Rugby branch dont lose the run of themselves and end up losing the supporters who have helped create what made Munster rugby what it is today.

That would be Isa Nacewa playing for Leinster. All those Maori guys look the same to you?

I don't know where they are going with the black... totally wrong and to my knowledge has never been a Munster colour. No chance will I part with money for this... don't even think I'd wear it if I got it free!

What's wrong with it? It's not part of the home strip so what's the problem. How'd you feel about the grey, green etc in the other jerseys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭dreamer_ire

I just feel like it's a rip off of the home jersey oafley... much preferred the navy/silver one which was primarily linked to the colours but slightly different. I have no problem them sticking to the primary colours and introducing something else but this is 50/50 and I don't like it. I also really don't like the new white jersey... bring back the navy one which was class.

To be honest I think they make a fortune on jerseys and simply change them year on year.. and introduce new ones (training etc) for commercial reasons only. Have to say I preferred the older jerseys prior to the move to adidas

Munster jerseys are good. White actually looked great in Cork last w/e. Black is good. Red is red. "Dennis the Menace" is the best of them.

Teams evolve, grounds evolve, jerseys evolve. It's all good.

p.s. Multiple jerseys doesn't mean you have to buy them all. Nothing wrong with increasing shirt sales either, provided some of the money goes back to the team. Adidas kit is actually cheaper than the old Canterbury stuff.

Very fair point... I just preferred the old ones... not keen on the strips on the sleeves

Best thing to do is to vote with your wallet, if you don't like it don't buy it! Personally I think its is a fantastic jersey, (took delivery of mine last week, and all the rugby spods round here are well impressed with it) easily the nicest of all the current provincial kit...

Black, navy...who cares? as long as the red of Munster is clearly visible and dominant and that crest is on, i'm all for it

Was in a Dublin sports store at lunch time yesterday and noticed that the test version of the new Leinster jersey is now available. Assuming that it would be at a similar price point to the test international jersey (€110 for the test Irish jersey versus €77 for the replica), I picked it up but was pretty shocked to see it retail at €130 (still €77 for the replica).

Admittedly it comes on a flashy tin (!), but surely this doesn't justfify the additional cost compared to the test Irish jersey?

Many may argue that I'm a sucker to be lookig at the test jersey anyway, but I prefer the look, feel and fit of it, and would consider paying up to €110...

Still reckon the best bet is the training jersey at €77 though!

I would reckon the irish test jersey will be the same price when it comes out at the end of the month

Personally, I wouldn't pay that kind of money for what is, a the end of the day, merely a rugby jersey..It's a test jersey for a reason..i.e. its designed to be worn by professional players in a game environment...But hey you pays your money you takes your choice....
