Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I realise that this has probably been asked before an probably quite recently but I can't remember one off of the top of my head, and after a quick search I cannot find anything.

I have been listening the WMP on random for the last few days and Implements of Destruction by Chimaira has come up a near statistically impossible amount of times, but it has a really good intro imo and that got me thinking about other songs with good intro's; hence the thread.

Blind by Korn has to go in there, even if you don't like korn, eveyone knows that intro.

The intro to Kids Aren't Alright by the Offspring always gets me

Americana was the first album I ever bought and I got it the day after hearing them play that song at the MTV awards that were in Dublin, as soon as the intro started I knew I'd found what was for me. So that song got me into rock music and literally changed the course of life, so all of the things that have happened to me since then I associate with the intro to that song

Ah, there it is, awesome

The start of 'Legion' by 'Deicide'- Lambs bleeting I tells ya!!!

The start of 'Carnivore' by 'Carnivore'- someone puking complete with the unique echo effect that one can only achieve when hurling into a toilet bowl.

'Everything's Ruined' by 'Faith no More'- Another one with animals, this time its seagulls!

For me personally, my favourates are either Better Living Through Chemistry by QOTSA, or Once by Pearl Jam.

Many great ones out there, most mentioned already.

'Phantom of the Opera' and Wasted Years' by Iron Maiden are defo my favourite intros. The bass intro to 'Man overboard' by Blink 182 as well as the intro to 'Impulse' by An Endless Sporadic are very catchy.

As far as iconic intros go... The first few seconds of this amazing song:

Always loved the intro to 'Lounge Act' by Nirvana. The bass line is just quality.

Whistle intro to 'Winds of Change' by the Scorpions is fantastic too.

And thirdly I'll nomintae both 'Stockholm Syndrome' and 'Plug In Baby' by Muse.

I've always liked the intro to Fight Fire With Fire from Metallica's Ride The Lightning. It was the first time I'd ever heard them and I was in awe that guitars could be that loud and fast :). I also like the intro to Orion. It's so simple yet so effective.

An honourable mention also to Pisschrist by Fear Factory.

Re Gimme Shelter - isn't the fact that you get goosebumps from a very simple guitar line and drumbeat enough to make the intro outstanding. The fact that it's not, of itself, 'musically' spectacular makes it all the better; it's got a threatening feel that sounded like an impending apocalypose in 1969 and it still works today.

    I'm giving it a +1

Now playing: Mercury Rev - Vermillion
    via FoxyTunes

Into the Lungs of Hell by Megadeth is hard to top in terms of an album opener IMO.

I love the intro to 'Roll another number for the road' by Neil Young. He messes up the start so much he ends up just really apruptly starting it.
