Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can't reformat Asus notebook!

I have an Asus U6S notebook. I was messing around with OSx86 during the week, and couldn't get it to work fully. So I went about reinstalling Vista today, using the original discs supplied by Asus.

The notebook came with 2 discs - one with Vista the other with drivers and utilities. I'm trying to just install vista, then only put on the drivers and apps I want afterwards. However, when I install Vista and ignore the request for the drivers CD I get this error on boot.
Windows couldnot parse or process unattend answer file [C:\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml]. The answer file is invalid.

Now I looked it up and it seems other Asus users can install Vista alone and do the drivers later, but that error says otherwise. Any ideas? Or am I doomed to install and have to uninstall all the Asus bloatware?

thats a bit like expecting a car engine to start without putting petrol in the tank

hmmmmm....do what it says and you won't get the error

I would hazard a guess that the discs are related to each other and you have no choice but to follow the prompts. Sounds like a "ghosting" image operation to me. go with the flow, man!

you can uninstall any apps you don't want later. either way, you gotta install the drivers at some stage.

It's not really. Vista should have the ability to boot from a clean install without any specific drivers. XP does it. All I wanted to know was if there is a way to have with boot without running the unattend file?

totally depends on what way asus set up their reinstall disks,
its either not a standard vista install dvd, or the dvd might be scratched

i'd guess that its a asus custom disk

can you borrow a vista dvd and install it with the laptops COA code

I guess you guys are right. It does seem to be some sort of recovery set up that needs both discs. Though why they didn't compile them into one disc I don't know. :S

I might try get a Vista retail disc from work, but for now, complete reinstall is my only option.

    Thanks for the comments.
