Previously my pings to boards would be ~15ms. I am also getting LOTS of disconnects while gaming. I am not happy with the upgrade at all tbh and will probably either request a downgrade as I am paying for what was branded as a premium service. If a rollback was available I would take that too as previously the service was fine.

Im in the same boat as yourself and also on the Belcamp exchange seriously considering cancelling eircom and gettin NTL instead my connection just went to hell this weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭pedro ferio-vti

Was speaking with BT earlier Peter and there is a problem with either our or a neighbouring exchange due to the flooding on Saturday or whatever day it was. They reckon it will either be sorted by this evening or tomorrow. If it isn't i'll be giving them a shout back to see if there is a short term solution planned for this and if there isn't i'll be cancelling and going with an alternative.

If NTL is available I would consider it. It's the downtime while switching companies that I don't want to deal with tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,278 ✭✭✭peterk19

I was onto Eircom myself earlier and they didnt mention any flooding they just said my line may not be capable of the new speeds which is fair enough the downtime is the only thing thats putting me off changing to NTL although i reckon ill just cancel the DSL after the new line is installed i also have a really good Cisco adsl router that i dont want to waste by changing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭pedro ferio-vti

Hmm, and here was me buying a new router to replace my 2247 after reading threads here about the upgrade. If your Cisco box is wireless and you need the Wireless aspect around your house you'll need it after you get your NTL one as they don't ship out Wireless ones from memory.

Another thread is suggesting high interleaving may be also contributing to the issue so I will be contacting them later in the week with a view to getting this changed to low or fastpath if my line is capable. If they aren't willing to change then might go with NTL, we'll see.

PS: Good idea on changing with no downtime :D

pedro ferio-vti you aren't based in North County dublin by any chance? Out here in Portmarnock/Malahide we were out from 9:00 pm sat till 5 pm sunday because of flooding.

Edit: ignore me - I see you are in Belcamp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭pedro ferio-vti

Exchange is Belcamp, I live in Kilmore. The flooding was pretty bad so maybe the exchange story the girl gave me has some merit, I suppose we'll see later in the week. Is your service completely restored now?

It would be great if OP could add all the exchanges that have had confirmed upgrades already rather than having zillions of threads on individual exchanges

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

i already was on the 2mb package with 20 gb cap...free upgrade to 3mb with 30gb cap but it says on their support page{stats check} that my cap will return to 20gb next month, but still with 3mb speed, ridiculous.

It has to be a glitch, because if you check the home and business 3mb packages, both have 30gb caps.

Suppose I'm not getting the full speeds I could but for now it's fine. :)

And here is what happens when you change DSL filter.

did you try it beforehand without any filter?

Yep and it didn't sync up at all without one.

Yesterday the line kept dropping so pulled out a new filter just to see if that was it.

Still holding strong at 7616/672 today, better than it's ever been from the time of the upgrade.

Don't actually know when this happened (was scheduled for 9th August according to the BT website, but I'm sure I've checked my modem since then). Can't say it's made any noticeable difference anyway...

BT raised speeds up to 24MB on certain exchanges, it's on the BT site and has been discussed in other threads.

Only got the upgrade today even though the exchange was upgraded on the 9th. Interesting that since the 9th pings to most sites trebled but then when we got the upgrade today pings are back down to a healthy 10 (must have set us to fastpath?).

this is since eircom upgraded the carlow exchange......take particular note of the latency ping setting...........basically my online gaming days are gone this is not acceptable

on 3mb bt connection at mo (was same before eircom upgraded their exchange) i know cos the eircom sales guy that pesters us on a weekly basis told us the eircom exchange in carlow had been upgraded to 7.6mb

my old pings used to average 30-40ms now they average 300-350ms in counterstrike source and any other steam game
