I dunno, why would her parents let her on to a talent show just to have her standing there listening to her ipod and singing a few lines from a song? :o
People either go on those shows for a complete píss take or because they have delusions of talent, or they really have talent and want a shot at it. At 6 years of age, or whatever she was, she cant have fallen into any of those catagories.

There was another young girl there doing a bit of dancing and singing and when the weatherman told her she was better at the dancing than singing, the evil eyes she gave him were priceless!

I tuned in to the show this evening. The mawkish sentimentality on show from both the contestants and judges is hard to stomach. Daithi O Se needs to get back to the sheep shearing and Grainne Seoige needs to *******************************************

what a charmer. it takes a real man to slag off a woman's shape.

Watch the language folks, this is not AH. Any more swearing/insults and I shall ban people.

Absolutly pathetic, cheap show devoid of any talent. Its so stupid how the show tries to replecate Simon Cowells shows- eg. the fast cut shots of the 'judges' looking serious with their hands folded saying "im here for a fight" and the cheezy music. Its only children and mentally ill adults who audition for this useless, pointless tripe.

what time is it on at? might give it a watch, it better not clash with dancing on ice!
I wish it would, prancing on ice Vs Irelands full of losers. The ice bastards would have it with their blades I'd say.

Seriously, boards.ie is getting dragged down by snide irrelevant personal comments, and it's going to put off people who have reasonable, relevant opinions.....

Sensitive much lads? Get over yourselves. The initial part of my post was a critique on the show as I saw it. The second part which ye've all jumped on was a bit of humour. If ye didn't cop that more pity ye.

Ahh....that explains why we didn't recognise it - humour's normally funny, rather than simply snide and insulting.

With a level of comic talent like that, you should enter the show yourself !

Of course 6 year olds can have talent. Ever hear of Shirley Temple, Haley Joel Osmont, the Olsen twins, Noah Gray-Cabey who by the age of 4 was a professional pianist and an actor by 6. If someone has natural talent it becomes obvious as soon as they have the opportunity to exercise it and a lot of small children are fantastic actors/dancers/musicians.

That kid with the iPod however had no discernible talent on display and her parents were remiss in allowing her to be on the show.

That the exact point I was making.
Sorry, when I said At 6 years of age I meant to refer to her, not in general.

Watched the Galway show and it wasn't quite as bad as the Dublin auditions, although the standard was still dire overall.

Thought the best were the 3 brothers from the Aran Islands, seemed like nice likeable kids and played their instruments well.

Wasn't impressed by any other act in the final 5, the electric fiddle was kind of cool though.

Noticed that when the singer from Sligo (?) who had lost her brother went into the audition, the first thing the blonde judge said was "I hear you had some tragedy in your life" or something like that. So the judges must be briefed on the backstory of the contestants before they go in, so they can play up to the sob story....as in the X Factor. Hmmmmmm

It made me think of R. Gran from the Peter Kay reality spoof.

You'd imagine 100% wrong, then.

Imagine Scrubs, Frasier, QI, The Panel, Coupling and you might be on the right track.

As the Link above says 'Snow Patrol' are a Scottish/NI outfit, not that the Irish media/DJs recognise this, mostly here 'Snow Patrol' are just labled & recognised (wrongly) as an 'Irish' Band ............

The Dana one was dire. She actually got rid of the only talented singer on it, the red haired girl.

What's the fascination that opera singers have with these shows?

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Just caught the tail end of the Kilkenny one there tonight - i went to these auditions -
i never heard the guy with guitar singing but myself and friend knew he'd at least get to be on telly- guy with guitar and all.....
We also knew the lads with the football would be on tv.

The surprise hit me when i seen the girl & guy who sang toghther. They were right after us in the q - and after we walked out of our audition she said to us that she hadn't a hope after what we had just sang.
Low and behold they get thru.

I shouldn't have bothered watching. I just cant believe who actually got thru.

I don't think anyone below the age of 16 should be let on these shows and the judges of these shows should know better.

I agree. They're always afraid of upsetting them so they let them through and send home people who genuinely have talent. Granted some of the kids have talent too, but most of them are just getting through because they look cute. In fairness, you could dress any 5 year old up to look cute, it's not a talent!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,163 ✭✭✭✭Liam Byrne

Decent enough 3 or 4 in the top 5, with Donna Sludds & the guy with glasses having real talent.

But most of the rest of it simply wasn't good enough to be on TV.

And the attempts to hype it up were pathetic.....Blaithnid saying that "province against province has never been seen before" !!!! :P Was she not watching Ulster v Munster in Thomond Park last month (to name but one of many, many games) ?

Also, since Dublin is separate to Leinster.......this is probably based on population so it's fair enough in itself, but it means that it's NOT "province against province".

Woeful TV. Hopefully the final might be worth watching with some proper talent on it, but (aside from the above two) there's a lot more talent in Ireland that obviously has better things to do than go on this show!

Cut out the crap and fake soul-searching, where Blaithnid agonises over which off-key kid's heart to break; make it a 10-minute show that shows the top 5 only.

I thought the Northern auditions last week had the best standard so far. There were a few decent singers on there. Admittedly that is still a long way below what the series promises.

I am not normally a fan of Ni Chofaigh's presenting style on the Afternoon Show but I thought she came across well tonight.

The mum of the little blond kid who sang You Raise Me Up did not come across awfully well, she should have stayed out of the audition room since she looked in utter anguish as he was singing and it came across really badly. Also when the kid was asked by Blaithnaid why he wanted it, his answer sounded so rehearsed and learned off, like his mother had told him exactly what to say - for that reason I am glad she didn't put him through.

I didn't get the whole "poetry" thing from the Dundalk(?) girl if you can call that poetry - it was just odd and irritating and I can't see how it would come across well on stage. I mean who would pay to see that.

The little girl singing with her dad was a lovely kid but could not sing, I blame the parents for giving false hope to their kids.

The football guys were entertaining but I think she did the right thing not putting them through. The act would have got boring very quickly and if they dropped the ball they were fecked.

That girl Donna from Wexford had a nice voice. Not sure how she's gonna stand out on stage.

i agree and disagree with some. . . some of the contestants last week were very good and some were brutal. . .but there was a girl in her mid teens who sang " falling slowly" i have to say she was pretty good.

PLEASE tell me you're joking ? Any time I see the word "little" then I think "cutesy = votes", regardless of actual "talent".

As I said earlier [ having endured the Leinster-"province"-that-excludes-Dublin auditions ]......if there's talent out there, very little of it turned up for the auditions for this show, with only one or two exceptions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭brousuka

Totally agree Liam Byrne. WTF are they having little miss, or master sunshines, on this show up against adults. Anyway, Degrading, humiliating and cringeworthy content is the object of this cheap tatty show which has not worked out at all.

Yes but i feel this fella was an exception. He was actually talented. Did you watch the show? He was by far the best so far. Cork and the north probably have the best. How is this gonna work anyway. Iy looks like they're gonna show one performance from each province next week and one goes through to the final.

Nope. Having endured last week's acts, I was back at work and the radio had 2 hours' of actual new talent/acts/bands instead of one or two out of a bad lot....a MUCH better representation of the level of talent that Ireland has..... ;)

It was good enough tonight, the Monique girl was so hot(sucks she's only 13) and her act was very impressive, great she got through. The kid was pretty good as well but a bit unpolished tbh, mightn't come across so good in the real thing.

Problem I have is the audtions were so boring, and all the judges maby with the exception of daithi o' se were too 'nice'.

Next week the real thing begins. I'm most excited to see the lad Donal on the fiddle and seeing how it comes across on tv and the hiphop group(who could be good if production is not shabby)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 82 ✭✭Kat Slater

I'm still watching this show.... precisely coz it's so bad. Car-crash entertainment.

The only good one from tonight was the opera singer girl from Kerry, Iona.... and she didn't even get through to the final 5.

The 13 year old girl who danced was OK.

All the others were pure rubbish.

The only good audition centre so far has been the North. It's clear from watching the overall standard that the vast majority of Irish people know better than to enter this kind of show, having seen the likes of You're a Star before.

Yes that puzzled me why she didnt get through

BTW WTF does John Creedon, Sinead from Six and Michael Healy Rae know about talent

That Seoige one is a useless crap presenter - no personality at all - bring back Brian Ormond

agreed with the above about the cork show tonight. Creedon put everybody through to the second day cos he wasnt man enough to tell them that they didnt have what it takes. I mean he put through a singer that was missing notes all over the place, and even said to him he was missing notes.

The funny one was yer man that had recently been made redundant. Thought he was after winning the Eurovision.

Trapped in the parental homestead yesterday evening I saw this.

Even my Mam was pulling the proverbial out of it, she's usually the one getting annoyed with me for ripping things to shreds.

I did enjoy the little Jack Lynch kid, he was unreal. I loved his plans for the money when he wins "I'm movin me and my crew to New York". He's 6. He reminded me of the little indian dancing guy from the meme a few years ago.
