I'm getting rid of ICE today, enough is enough. I have been a customer with them for a year and a half and for the past month my speeds have dropped to a quarter of what im paying for and they've done nothing to fix the problem.

Im thinking of changing to Digiweb (only real option in my area) but Im a litttle concerned about the 40gb cap.

What do Digiweb charge for going over it and would people recommend Digiweb in general?

    Whats the minimum contract period?

    Search this forum!

There's a mention somewhere of an option to buy x GB for €y .. I think it was 10GB for €5, but search.

    Or ring them!

I sent them a mail during the week but they haven't got back to me yet. I was just wondering if anyone who is with Digiweb buys extra download allowance

Mike, It depends what service you have with Digiweb, on their Metro broadband you can get an extra 10gb for €5.99 per month.

Thats not too bad I suppose. Im currently with ICE but the speed is an issue and im sick of it now at this stage.

The only reason im with them is the "Unlimited" download allowence

    Hi Mike,
How did you get on with Digiweb? Thinking of dropping Ice and going with them myself, but am wary of jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Still waiting on Eircom to send an Engineer out too. They are looking at the lines in the lispopple area and have confirmed that they are fixing them to carry broadband out this far.

Im going to stay with ICE for the time being as they have fixed the problem. Going to see how the Eircom and BT situation progress over the next month or so in my area

Doesn't look fixed. Is 132ms ping to your closest server as good as it gets with Ice

  • Registered Users Posts: 177 ✭✭Mikebyrne

Yeah, on the speedtest it varies between that and 150

Can u pls ping www.boards.ie from the command line. My brother has the option of Ice in his area which I'm tryin to convince him to avoid as he also can get Dsl.

    Here's my results:

Pinging www.boards.ie [89.234.66.107] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=57

    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=43ms TTL=57

    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=43ms TTL=57

    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=53ms TTL=57

    Ping statistics for 89.234.66.107:

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

    Minimum = 43ms, Maximum = 53ms, Average = 46ms

What should you be looking for, the time to live??

Here is my results on a 6meg Wireless(Metro) Digiweb Metro connection.
Ideally, your ping should be lower, especially if you use VOIP or game a lot.
Can't fault digiweb, people give out about the 30gb cap, but their reliability is excellent.
Couldn't give a rats ass about their customer service:)

Time to live isn't very important, it's just an ICMP value associated with the maximum hop's or seconds a packet takes before it's discarded.
Basically a TTL is an 8-bit value which determines if a packet is to be disregarded. This ensures it isn't looped over and over during routing.
It usually works by decrementing a set value each router hop by 1 till 0, or by a specified time limit.

BTW, as you know, drop Ice as soon as you can !!!
    Hope it works out.

The only reason Im not changing to Digiweb is the 30gb cap a 12 month contract.

Im going to wait to see what Eircom and BT offer in the next few months
