    what are the thinnest slick tyres i can put on a 26" mountain bike wheel for road use?

    also where is the cheapest place to get them either in dublin or online?

    Depends on your rim width but you can get 26" slicks down to 1 inch (25.4mm) which is close to a road bike tyre. CRC are good for this sort of thing.

    Typical tyre sizes for 26 inch mountain bikes are;
    25-559, 26 x 1" thinnest
    32 x 559; 26 x 1 1/4
    40 x 559; 26 x 1 1/2
    47 x 559; 26 x 1 3/4
    50 x 559; 26 x 2
    57 x 559; 26 x 2 1/4 fattest.

    Keep in mind that if you are replacing tyres with much smaller size it is best to replace tubes as well, the tubes will have stretched to the larger size and tend to fold in the smaller tyre leading to wear and early punctures.
