I was hoping Sash would give Niamh a slap tonight. I would love to see them scrapping in the street.
The camera work was shockingly bad in that scene in the Dillon house. Dont get me started on the flimsy wall shaking when Caoimhe walked up the stairs. It reminded me of the cardboard sets on the old series of Crossroads. ( I am not old enough to remember but i have seen it on blooper shows!) :o

I see Dennis Tanner is back in Coronation Street - last seen in 1968. Played by the same actor - would that happen in Fair City?

Fair play to Carol was telling Niamh the truth, she should have chucked out Niamh

He'll have a lot harder time removing that sack of **** from his apartment than Sarah though.

Niamh is becoming Barry's bodyguard, anytime she spots him with Denzo, she says the name things...

    "Is he hassling you" etc....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

There is no excuse for them showing the set shaking, that scene should have been reshot and as for the camera work, it was beyond dire.

Isn't Denzo turning into a Barry Mini-Me - with his beard.

I didn't realise that Barry lived in a semi / detached house (Denzo in and out the back door most of the time).

It used to happen alot on Fawlty Towers, they were flimsy sets but that was the 70's, but it no excuse in this day and age.

I thought we might see a self harming storyline or bullima storyline for Rachel after all the stuff with Barry as she felt it was her fault

Does Niamh not realise Paul started all Barry's troubles to begin with

    Tuesday
Denzo taunts Decco when he reveals he's making more money than him. Keith realises that Orla wants more excitement in her life. She tells him she is fed up with just watching matches and they don't have any fun. Jo proposes a motivational meeting about the Bealtaine festival after Charlie announces that they have no funding for it. Leo and Orla are unwittingly roped into going on the committee.
Denzo calls to the Station and Barry is shocked to see him. Finn is annoyed when he spots Barry and asks him why Denzo keeps hanging around. Denzo sends Barry a text saying he's going to stay around until he gets his money. Keith cancels his night with Finn but tells him he can still watch the match in his house. When Finn leaves the bar, Barry is forced to give the money to Denzo. But Finn arrives back and nearly catches them. Finn approaches Barry about his work ethic and says they need to talk.
When Esther learns that Jo is organising the festival she tells the committee that it should only be the elderly who should run it. They have their meeting and Orla backs Charlie's idea of writing a letter to your younger self.
Zumo and Decco discuss setting up a 'make-up party' to clear counterfeit money. Denzo makes a point of coming home with food and clothes, and also pays his rent. Zumo warns him to stop flashing the cash. Decco realises that Denzo is getting the money from the Station. Charlie is worried when he realises that he has to organise the whole Bealtaine event.
In the Station Bar, Leo questions Barry what age he thinks he is and is shocked when he realises that he is probably seen as an OAP. While Barry locks up, he fails to notice an intruder in the bar. He takes Barry's keys and attempts to open the safe. Barry walks in on the intruder. Thinking he is Denzo, he beats him savagely. The intruder manages to escape and it's revealed that it was Decco who tried to steal the money.
Orla and Keith arrive back from the gig that she wanted to attend. She is annoyed that Keith was unimpressed by the band. Orla questions what Keith does like. Finn warns him that he is treading on thin ice. Orla accuses Keith of not supporting her or caring about her work enough to help her.

    Wednesday
Barry, still thinking he beat up Denzo, meets Zumo and is relieved that he doesn't threaten him. In an attempt to seem younger, Leo agrees to go for a jog with Finn. Charlie is disappointed when Esther says she doesn't agree with his Bealtaine idea. She tells him that she doesn't like to be reminded of the past.
Orla confides in Niamh that she is worried about her relationship with Keith. She tells her that she is bored with the relationship and doesn't want to spend the rest of her life sitting in a couch. Vivienne, Zumo and Denzo are shocked at Decco's injuries but he refuses to reveal where they came from. Niamh meets Keith and tells him that he has no idea how to treat women and he needs to start making more of an effort with Orla.
Finn asks Barry for money and Barry spots the knife that Decco dropped near the safe. He hides it under the safe and gives Finn his money. When Finn leaves, he hides the knife in his briefcase. In the community centre, there is dissent at Charlie's meeting. Esther urges him to regroup later as she has an idea.
Finn tells Keith that he has two tickets for the friendly in Brussels and asks him to take time off work. Keith tells him that he was planning to surprise Orla with a week away but Finn convinces him that he can do both. Barry sees Denzo and slams the knife down in front of him. But he's surprised to see that he was not hurt. Denzo demands to know where he got it and then realises that it was Barry who beat up Decco.
Keith surprises Orla with a romantic week holiday to Brussels, and though she is delighted with his gesture, she is also suspicious of it. The Bealtaine committee agree that the theme of the festival should be "Push the boat out, whatever the sea". Esther thinks that the letter should look forward not back and it should be addressed to their future selves. This idea wins approval.
Leo and Finn arrive back into Carrigstown after their jog. Finn praises him but when he leaves Leo doubles over with cramps. Jo passes by and asks him if he's having a heart attack. Finn notes the cuts on Barry's hand and asks him to get them seen to.
Orla is disguised to discover Keiths ulterior for the week away is to go to a match with Finn. She is horrified to learn that Finn is going as well. She confronts Keith about this and he tells her it's not as bad as it sounds and that he doesn't want to go with her anymore. Denzo approaches Decco and tells him to keep away from Barry. He jeers at him for getting so badly beaten up by Barry. He learns from Decco that Barry thought it was him.
Orla apologises to Keith and they decide to go on a blind date. Decco bursts into Barry's house and tries to threaten him. Barry tells him he doesn't care what happens anymore and he's going to call the guards. Decco tells Barry that he knows he has a secret and will find out what it is.

    Thursday
Denzo meets with Barry and tells him that Decco does not know anything about Sarah but he will face the consequences of hurting a Bishop. Finn meets Keith and gives him a ticket from Orla. Keith tells Finn this will sweeten Orla up. He reveals that they are having a blind date tonight. Finn notes that Orla is high maintenance.
The 'older' folk choose younger partners for their Bealtaine project. Derabhla agrees to be Esther's. Vivienne meets with Barry and notes his injured hand. She asks what happened and tells him to pop in during lunch and she will look after it. Orla meets a former boss of hers and is shocked when he offers her a job in Dubai. He tells her he needs a decision by the end of the week. Later a delighted Orla tells Niamh about the offer and she is told to think carefully about it.
Charlie asks Zumo to partner with him for the Bealtaine writing project. Finn spends a full day trying to get through to Barry. When Barry finally calls to the Station, Finn shows him the CCTV footage of Barry beating up a man in a balaclava. But Barry tells him that he didn't say anything or get the guards involved as he doesn't want any more attention around him or the Station. Finn tells him he is trouble and if he pulls another stunt like this he will fire him.
Charlie gets frustrated when he can't write anything in his letter. Vivienne calls to the Station to clean Barry's hand. Finn, thinking she knows, tells her that it was Barry who beat up the 'intruder' and hints that he believes it's one of her sons who tried to break in. She tells Barry she is going to kill Decco and he is secretly pleased she is siding with him. Keith meets Orla and her old boss JP but she doesn't introduce them or tell him about the job offer.
Leo meets with Jo and tells her that he is going to give Pilates a go and is delighted to learn that he is the only man in the class. Zumo agrees to help a frustrated Charlie record his thoughts on his phone. He points out to Charlie that all of his plans include Esther. Vivienne berates Decco for raiding the Station. Keith arrives back to the Station for his date and asks Orla who JP is. Again she doesn't reveal the whole truth. When Keith goes to the bar Orla accepts JP's job offer.
Charlie worries that he and Esther may want different things in life. Vivienne tries to apologise to Barry with an invite for dinner. Orla finally tells Keith about the job offer and asks him to go to Dubai with her. Denzo calls to Barry thinking he has the upper hand on him but Barry insists that from now on he gets a cut if he is to continue money laundering for Denzo.

I'd like to remind people that this thread should be bound to the same rules regarding spoilers as the Television forum.

    That is:

    • Just to be completely clear on the use of spoilers:
      - If a thread title has the word "Spoilers" in it, then it is OK to discuss the most recent episode (or older) without using [ spoiler ] tags.
      - If you have news about a future episode (from spoilerfix, ausiello etc.), then most people don't want to know (no, really - they prefer to be surprised by major plot developments and twists).
      - If you feel it should be posted anyway, please use [ spoiler ] tags (to give people the option of reading them or not). Also contextualise the spoiler by saying what it's about outside of the spoiler tag (Spoiler about Season Finale, Spoiler about Character Exit, etc.)
      - Links to interviews, show news etc. are OK (people can decide on whether or not to click them).
      - Posting Youtube clips of "next episode" promos is also OK in the TV forum (people can decide whether or not to watch them).
      - Bear in mind that some show-specific forums in the TV category have their own rules about where promo clips can be posted. Please check their charter if you are not sure.

So anything hasn't aired (whether it's news or synopsis of a future episode) should remain in spoiler tags.

You can speculate without the need for spoiler tags though!

    Sunday
Denzo tells Barry that Decco wants in on the deal. He realises that Barry now has more power and he is stuck between Barry and Decco. Charlie tells Cass that the letter writing has made him think about his future with Esther and he is worried about it. Niamh tries to make Orla take the move to Dubai more seriously and advises her to tell Keith. Orla informs Keith that if he loves her he'd move to Dubai.

Barry begins to launder more money in the Station. Finn tells Keith that he should remind Orla that Dublin is a great place to live. He then informs Orla that he has plans for her. He is quietly confident that she will enjoy it. Jo tells Leo that he should get involved in the Bealtaine festival and maybe play his guitar. Niamh tells a shocked Vivienne about all the abuse Barry has suffered from the Bishop Boys.

Rachel suggests to Cass and Leo that they should form a band. Barry freaks Denzo out when he tells him he is not afraid of him or Decco. He tells him that he is damned for killing Sarah and may as well profit from his pact with the Bishops - so he will keep a cut of the laundered money. Esther's teasing leaves Charlie despairing that she doesn't see a future with him. Vivienne forces her sons to go and say sorry to Barry. This makes Decco want to hurt Barry even more. He accepts their apology but Decco knows he is hiding something. Cass tells Esther that her thoughtless behaviour has Charlie worried.

Orla is shocked when she receives her contract. It is not the job she is being offered and she realises that she'll earn less than when she freelances. Esther goes to Charlie's house and declares her love for him. He tells her he loves her too and they kiss. Keith tells Orla he will go to Dubai with her as she loves him but she tells him she is going nowhere. Niamh wonders if she's only staying because of the job mix-up.

Esther and Charlie try to gauge one another's feelings about living together. Dermot and Jo argue and Dermot is hurt when he hears his son Ben is now calling him Dermot as well. Carol tells Louie that the Come Dine With Me night has been cancelled because Orla is on holidays. In Vinos, Niamh and Yvonne chat about it. Jo overhears and suggests that she replace Orla. Louie is delighted and embraces the idea of the evening.

Robert tries to help Dermot with his sore back and he tells him that he is carrying a lot of tension and wonders if everything is okay. Bela and Cass encourage Charlie in his pursuit of Esther. Leo asks Philip to join him in a band for the Bealtaine festival. Niamh and Esther increase Dermot's anxiety about his paternity by telling him that he needs to let Ben know he's adopted. Bob calls to McCoys and notes how busy it is. When he questions Louie as to where Carol is, she overhears and insults Bob, who bitterly leaves the pub.

Charlie reveals to a shocked Cass and Bela that he is going to propose to Esther. They then meet Esther, and Bela and Cass try to suss her out about it. She gets the wrong impression that Charlie is being forced to do the right thing. She tells them that she has never thought of marriage. Robert insists to Jo that adopted children should know the truth about who their real parents are. Leo and Philip debate over what they are going to call their band. Charlie interrupts Leo and asks him for advice on how to propose.

Jo and Dermot talk about what Robert said, and Dermot suggests Ben is still too young to hear about adoption. Louie thinks that he and Carol are in with a chance of winning the Come Dine With Me night. The meal gets under way and Carol tries to get them to drink loads of cocktails and wine.

Charlie meets Esther but is put off his proposal by Esther's insistence that she is happy with things the way they are. He tries to hide his disappointment. Back in McCoys, Jo gets tipsy and flirts with Louie. Yvonne and Niamh leave but a drunk Jo keeps the party going. She ignores a phone call from Dermot as he waits patiently for her at home. Carol shows her out of the pub, but she does not close the doors properly.

    Wednesday
Bob spots two boys coming out of McCoys - one with a box full of crisps and the other with two bottles of orange. He realises that Louie has slipped up and tries to catch them. Dermot arrives down from upstairs and finds a hungover Jo crashed out in the sitting room. They fight and she tells him to leave her alone. Louie and Carol get a rude awakening when Bob goes into their bedroom to tell them they've been robbed. He tells them that they are lucky that no money was taken. Carol tells him to get out.

Charlie confides in Cass and Bela that Esther has no interest in marriage. He tells her that he was sure she wanted a proposal but now he's confused about the relationship and where it will go. Bob goes into McCoys' sitting room and goes through the accounts book. Louie catches him but Bob tells him that the takings are down since Louie began his affair with Carol. An embarrassed Jo meets Yvonne but Yvonne reassures her that she didn't disgrace herself.

Esther confides in Niamh that she would have accepted Charlie's proposal. But Leo meets Esther and inadvertently reveals that Charlie was going to propose. She meets with Bela and Cass and berates them for giving her the wrong idea. Back in the Faheys' house, Dermot and Jo are careful around each other while Philip and Leo argue over musical differences. Bob tells Carol that he will take over her job in the bar for the evening while she does her mayor duties with the Bealtaine festival.

Robert puts Dermot on the spot when he asks him what he is going to say about his father Brendan. Bela and Cass convince Charlie to propose to Esther. Meanwhile, Esther receives a letter which upsets her profusely. In a daze she starts to cry. The community centre is packed as people await the official opening of the festival. Leo tells Cass that the band has broken up. Cass is disappointed as he brought drums along with him. Charlie is delighted to see Esther arriving.

In the Faheys', Jo and Dermot share their concern about Robert and his threats to tell Ben about Brendan. Jo tells Dermot to leave Robert to her and she will deal with him. After Carol's speech, Charlie gets up on stage and proposes to Esther. He is shocked when Esther rebuffs his proposal and flees.

    Thursday
Bob sees a 'help wanted' sign in McCoys and insists to Louie that he wants more involvement in the pub. Charlie wonders if he has blown his relationship as well as his proposal. He tells Bela and Cass that he feels like such a fool. Dermot agrees with Philip and Jo that they will tell Ben he's adopted when the time is right. Philip tells then that they need to stop arguing as well.

A visibly upset Esther is in her office with Niamh. Niamh notes that Esther is reading a letter from a man in England. She tells Demrot there is something up. Jo is concerned that Ben overheard a conversation with her and Robert about him being adopted. Louie hands over the quarterly reports and Bob tells him he'll review them and get back to him.

Niamh reveals to Charlie that Esther received a letter from a man in the UK. He then thinks that she has another man in her life. He approaches Esther who can't deny that she has 'another man in her life'. Ben starts asking Jo and Dermot about parents and who is real and who is not. He then announces that he heard Robert say he wasn't his real dad. Dermot lies and tells him he is. An angry Jo and Dermot fight over why he lied. He storms out and confronts Robert for his revelation to Ben.

Esther follows Charlie and takes offence when he starts talking about Mags. He tells her he knows nothing about her past and that he doesn't know her. They break up. Carol enlists Yvonne to help her with her interview technique as they are looking for new bar staff. Leo, Philip and Cass decide to give the band another chance. Esther accuses Niamh of prying in her personal life.

Louie is very busy with a gang of rowdy young people but he refuses Bob's offer of help. Robert, who realises the damage he has done, makes a hearty apology to Jo and Dermot. He accepts it but, feeling embarrassed by the whole situation, lashes out at Philip. Bob goads Louie, highlighting his deficiencies in running the pub. Jo declares to Dermot that they must tell Ben he's adopted before someone else does.

    Meet the Actors: Pat Nolan

Barry has had more knocks than Mike Tyson, but he has always been able to recover. Since his best friend mistakenly accused him of inappropriate behaviour with a minor, and the gossip mill has gone into over-drive, Barry's life has spiralled out of control. Can Barry ever recover from taking Sarah's life?

We put some of your questions to Pat Nolan.

What has been the most memorable for you during your time on Fair City?
As you can imagine after 22 years on the show that's a tough question. There are many, many great stories - some I can't repeat ('what happens in Carrigstown, stays in Carrigstown...!). I remember my first day on the show and it seems like only yesterday. There was great excitement around, I don't think everyone expected the show to last for so long, but with a lot of hard work from a lot of people, it worked.
I remember and wish to honour all the actors who have passed on; I learned so much from them, Eileen Murphy, Charlie Roberts, Jim Reid, Joan Brosnan Walsh, Brendan Cauldwell, Pat Leavy, Anna Managhan and Don Foley, to name a few. I think their spirits live on in the DNA of Fair City, in the sets, the dressing rooms and the studios.

Will Barry ever talk about the past with Niamh?
I think he needs to talk to someone!! He's in at the deep end. He came close to confessing to Niamh recently, but the time wasn't right, maybe later. Who knows? Talking about the past may be a way into untangling his current dilemma, and Niamh would fit the bill.

Did you feel that Vivienne should have trusted Barry in the first place?
That would have been nice! But I think her maternal instinct kicked in and she wasn't willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Well done on the recent storyline, very well acted, who do you think is Barry's closest friend?
Thank you. At this moment he's very much a man alone, who's lost in this nightmare world that he has created. Trying to stay sane and ahead of the posse - which lie will he tell today?
It doesn't leave much room for friendship. The only one he can really talk to is Denzo! But is he a friend?

Did you find it difficult playing the recent storyline, killing Sarah, and fraternising with Denzo Bishop?
God yes!! So sad. I enjoy it as an actor; it's always nice to get your teeth into a good storyline. Seeing the character going through this torment is not nice. But as an actor you never judge his motives, just justify them, build an arc and play it as real as you can. You have to be willing as the actor to go on the character's journey.

What storyline would you give Barry?
That an episode opens and Barry steps out of the shower and the past few months have been a dream/nightmare!!

Barry has been an integral part of Fair City since it started. What has been your favourite storyline, Barry has got?
The Barry/Ross/Sorcha love triangle, from 2005 was fun and great for a soap. Barry ended up having a nervous breakdown and ended up in a Mental Hospital, where he met Annette, and the beat goes on. The fact that I won an International Award (Rose D'Or) for Best Soap Actor in Switzerland made it even more special. This current storyline is a cracker as well.

Which do you prefer filming in - the Hungry Pig, McCoys or the Station?
The Station is the newest set of the three and I must say I've enjoyed working in it, it has a bit of space, and it looks well on screen. McCoys goes back to 'day one', so that set would hold lots of memories for me. I'm still waiting for the 'Hungry Pig' to grow on me.

If Barry won the Euromillions what would he do to Carrigstown?
Knowing him, he would put it into the Community, I'm sure he wouldn't be short of takers!
Jo and 'The Helping Hand' would have two hands out! I think he would give his house a makeover (too many bad memories), or maybe even buy a new one, buy a new car (more bad memories). And maybe hair extensions, and definitely a tattoo.

What are the best and worst qualities to the character?
Barry's heart is always in the right place and he honestly does care for people and his community. However, he can be his own worst enemy. When it comes to relationships, he seems to have a self-destructive side. Just when he's happiest, it all goes wrong. It's like a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Who is your favourite character in Fair City?
I enjoy watching the show when I can. And Dermot (Seamus Power) makes me laugh. He and Jo (Sarah Jessica Rachael Murphy) are a good team.

What cast members do you enjoy working with the most?
During the most recent story, I've enjoyed working with Paul and Niamh, because there is a history there. As an actor you could use that in the scene. Working with Lewis (who plays Denzo) has been great, the story has been so intense - you need a good partner to be there for you and vice versa.

Do you think will Barry ever settle down and have a family and be a happy character?
The clock is ticking for Mr. O'Hanlon!! He's no spring chicken. That would be nice, but would he be happy? Be careful what you wish for, but then this is Carrigstown, anything can happen!!

When was Barry most happy, studying to be a priest, teaching, as a school principal as a newspaper editor or was there another time he was most happy?
In an episode coming up, Barry tells Vivienne that the newspaper was his favourite. And the newspaper trio of Sarah, Duncan and Barry was great craic, with deadlines and all that stuff, then when the recession came, trying to keep the whole thing afloat. As an actor, I loved the set for the Northside Post, it had a big playing area, with lots of fun areas to do scenes.

Of Barry's love interest, which was his favourite?
That's a tough one. I think as he got older his need to settle down became more important to him. So I think he put a lot of faith in his relationship with Annette, and we all know how that ended up.

Pat, what was it like on the set of Batman Begins?
Great fun. It was only a small part (blink and you'll miss me) but it was so nice to see how the other half lives; the scale of the production was huge. It was also nice to have a bit of screen time with Gary Oldman, who's career I've followed for many years. Which leads us nicely to...

Who's the most famous actor you have worked with?
I always had a fear of working/meeting famous people. As they say 'never meet your heroes'. I don't want to be let down by them. And to be honest, that hasn't really happened. I did a couple of things with Pierce Brosnan (pre James Bond) on 'Remington Steele' and 'Taffin' and he was really nice. Gary Oldman was great too. I've also worked with some of the Royalty (Kings and Queens!) of the Irish Stage and Screen: Cyril Cusack, Maureen Potter, Niall Tobin, Deirdre O'Connell, Tony Doyle, Ray McAnnally, John Kavanagh and Stephen O'Halloran to name a few.

    Thank you for your questions.

    Good interview, I enjoyed that.

I think he is doing a fine job with the storyline. Interesting to hear he isn't too keen on the Hungry pig, that was one of my questions :D

I loved when Leo turned around to Orla when Jo was talking about elderly people - "I hope she isn't talking about us" :D:D:D

Glad to see Leo back on the scene. I always think he overacts but I really enjoy him all the same.

I thought Orla was looking great last night. The longer hair really suits her.

Poor Barry. When will the nightmare end for him. I can see it all ending in tears. :(
