expiry date of points notification??

hi all,

i was stopped for speeding mid july 2007 when i was in cavan heading back to NI. Im driving a NI car, but didnt change my southern licence as i intend to move back to ROI in a year or two. i admit i was speeding and accepted the fine and points.

I heard nothing from the garda about the points until this week, a year later. my mate was telling me that they have to notify you within 6months otherwise the points are invalid. is this true or was he talkin out his ar$e.

the other thing is the letter states i have to pay the fine within 28days of notification but the letter is date 28th july 2007. WTF??


any info wud be great.

not sure bout points but i think a summons has to be issued within six months

I thought points had to be issued within 6 months.

i already took a look at that but it doesnt have any info if there as any time limitations to points notifications

You weren't notified and given an opportunity to pay the FPN within the time frame so I would say ignore it. It's doubtful the guard will pursue it further but, if he does, IMO it has no chance in court.

Well i rang the office that sent the notification. girl said the letter was issued July 2007. she didnt know why i took so long to get to me. she then told me that matter was referred to court on the 10/01/08. I didnt receive any notice of this either.

rang the cavan disctrict court, and the guy on the phone was sound. he told me that as the garda didnt issue the summons, the case was struck out. Happy Days
