sometimes youtube gets really slow for me - from certain youtube servers
at least. a 3 minute video might take 10 minutes to download if it is
coming from one of the 'bad' servers.

in fact all the v??.cache.googlevideo.com servers are slow at the moment!

i am on the BT 3Mb service and i wonder if anyone else has this
    problem?

here is a ping from a server that is working ok...

Pretty sure BT is limiting speeds to youtube at any peak times. This happens to me and my friend and makes youtube almost unusable. Any other video site works perfectly during these times.

this is due to there being so many connections on the servers that is why they are slow

nothing to do with your isp

i have 1mbb with ibb and can watch videos fine at www.youtube.ie

if you can watch youtube ok at the moment then youtubes servers must
be ok. can you confirm that vids coming off v??.cache.googlevideo.com
are downloading normally at the moment?

i've heard they do this too. it's a sunday evening though so this seems like
an off-peak time (maybe i am wrong though?)

if it is BT, they do a really lame job of throttling access to youtube - it's
only the googlevideo servers that seem affected now - all the rest ash, lax, sjc
etc are all as fast as ever

i would hate to think that i'm paying 40eur a month for a service like this!

This has been talked about before. They do limit certain youtube/googlevideo servers at peak times.

hi alec. it occured to me to try this but i don't like the idea of all my
http traffic going through a machine run by god knows who. maybe
    i am getting paranoid :D

I am on Smart and i notice Youtube slows down at certain times for me.
I would imagine it has more to do with Youtube being busy than Smart blocking it as Youtube goes back to normal speeds for me after a while.:)

hey mrquite! do you think you are slowing down as much as i am? it can take
a 3Mb video more than 10 minutes to download when the slowdown hits. it's
been really bad for at least 3 days now :(

I'm beginning to wonder if it is a problem on some of Esat's routes into the US. Some sites are fine here but one important site is running at a tenth of its usual download speed via Esat.
