Im writing this because for the last few weekends ive just had the same nights out in dublin that have drunkenly been mashed into one drunken memory. Usually go for a few local, then go into town to the likes of flannerys or further down town to the duke, keoghs or the porterhouse. Some halfway house to get a drink or two in and then its onto Coppers or the alternatives to coppers which ive found arent great. D2 or Whelans. Even went to the Arlington for a change last night, what a dump! Need to do something to spice up the old nights out or im gonna end up like an old fart sitting at home with a couple of cans and watching a dirty movie, because that sounds better than the last few nights ive been out. HELP NEEDED!!! SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

6 Football clubs play in Dublin, usually play either Friday or Saturday night. Would kill a few hours and costs €10 (Student) or €15 (Adult) in most of the stadiums.

But the OP is tired of pubs. Which is where loyal premiership fans attend all their matches?

OP: why not dress as a member of the opposite sex for the night?

I would agree with doing something different, Eircom league matches may not br world class fotoball but usually its usually close games and a great atmosphere. But as said its not really everyones tastes. But there are theatres, cinemas, peoples houses etc. all worth going to.

Your night is what you make of it, you seem to choose to do the same thing every week with the same people. Maybe try going out with different people, different pubs.

    Also.. Coppers?
    Sweet jesus.
    *facepalm*

Dublin has lots to offer outside the pub crawl circuit, there is live music, theatre, cinemas, museums(most free), art galleries (again most free), sport of various types (to watch or partake in).

Cost shouldn't be an issue as a night out in Dublin (just counting the cost of the drink) is not cheap. http://www.entertainment.ie is usually very good for listings for music, theatre, comedy or exhibitions.

Apart from the difference is you WENT to a game instead of watching a game which means nothing to you on the TV (probably in a pub).

If you read his signature it would make sense but in case you have them turned off:
Real football fans have the urge and need for live football and atmosphere. Football fans who have the urge for football on TV's are nothing but imitations.

I'm not a massive football fan but I assume it's like music, if you haven't been to a gig in the last month(I could say the last week for me) you probably like music but don't love it.

Anyway back on topic, Dublin has something for everyone if you look hard enough (sadly you do sometimes have to look very hard) and it doesn't always have to have alcohol involved.

OP, check Entertainment.ie. There are always good gigs, shows etc. on in Dublin most nights of the week. Many may not be to everyone's tastes but even still you might enjoy something.

I refuse to go there. I have moral standards. :D

Maybe you should move over to Manchester and support your "local" club over there. I have had more fun at Eircom League matches than I shall ever have from watching two foreign clubs play on a tv.

Just you will be talked about 5 years later on the radio or down in the local clinic the next week.

I know plenty of people who have gone there and some who even still occasionally do venture there. Its pretty much just a meat market, and not in the nice way. As I said, I wouldn't ever plan on going there and have thankfully avoided the place.

Many better places to go. Not like Dublin is short on pubs/clubs.

I don't support an English club so the only games I went to when i lived in Eire were the internationals. Seriously I tried the LOI and it was awful. I'm sure it was better when I was a kid in the 80s and my dad used to take me, bigger crowds if I remember correctly. Even the A-League down here looks like Brazil '70 compared to LOI.

Not having a go, Brazil, but if you value entertainment so much, what were you attending Jack's army Ireland internationals for? ;)

I have to laugh at people saying that the home league is sh*t. This doesn't stop them lapping up the utter sh*te purveyed by the national team or 80% of EPL, championship and SPL games.

No problem with people liking football 'as a sport' and wanting only to watch the top-end. Fair enough, but don't pretend to be a 'fan' and make pronouncements on the state of the game if your enjoyment is predicated purely on how 'good' or 'bad' the football is.

Put some of your money into our game and the standards will improve. It's not rocket science. :P

There's a reasonably good deal on at moment. For 35 quid you get to see Sham. Rovers playing sunderland and the tickets good for the next home game at Tolka park. 2for1 kinda thing. Of course none of these teams may be to anyones taste but I think other teams may be doing much the same. I'm sure Gav would know more. But sounds an ok introduction to me.
