Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I had an alarm fitted by the electrician when I did my last self-build. I've since learned that it is a regulatory / legal requirement to have a qualified alarm installation contractor do the work.

Here's a question - if the local hoodie boys drop in and clean the place out, will my insurance policy be valid?

This would be more suited to the legal eagles.

    Moved from construction & planning

Check the insurance policy. Something like this would probably fall under the insurees duty to disclose all material facts in any case.

They should. The law only came in in the last couple of years and it's not retrospective. The only issue could be if you've got a discount on your insurance for having an NSAI(or whoever certifies the installers) installed alarm.

Also what difference does an alarm make to scumbags stealling stuff? Does anyone even look out their window when an alarm goes off?

The only alarm thats of any use for insurance/Gardai are correctly installed monitored alarms with an internal sensor to confirm a person is on the premises and not just the window getting a lash. That way the Gardai can get to the place and catch the person in the act.
