'Head' Shops

I've heard about these for a while now and never quite grasped the concept of what they are?

The only thing I know they sell is that imitation weed; 'Smoke'

Like what else do they sell?

Last time I was in one - Bongs, pipes, incense ashtrays, lighters, papers, hemp made garments, ornaments and so on

They usually specialise in what is termed "Harm Reduction" products i.e imitiation weed, pills and assorted other substances. The idea behind it is that they are supposedly safer to use than the real things and contain legal ingredients.

Of course some people just see them as drug shops but they are completely missing the point...

they sell a large mix of herbal highs

also some sell grow boxes, grow kits etc.

i (sadly) frequent some of them bi monthly or so. they do sell certain "highs" that really shudnt be legal at all, Peyote and san pedro cactus to name a few (they contain high quantities of the chemical Mescaline) also they do have herbal mixes for Ayahueasca (sp?) which makes a drink of maoi inhibitors and one that contains DMT. If you do not know what this is you should google it! (far stronger than lsd imho but very hard to make properly, took me 3 attempts to make a perfect brew)

also dont go near salvia

everything is legal but if a guard finds you with it you will be in a very awkward situation and yoou will lose whatever you bought.

Surely if its legal the gardai has to give it back after testing it to make sure its legal

They are currently selling Benzylpiperazine based pills which is "supposed" to mimic extacy, these are currently banned in the UK and other EU states.

BZP - horrible horrible drug. Banned in Australia too I believe. I don't think many people will give out when it finally gets banned here.

yeah thats a nasty drug makes many illegal drugs seem tame and relaxing.

It has only been banned in Oz and NZ in the last 6 months

Most of these BZP based drugs originate from New Zealand

All of the ones available here come from there as far as I know but they are now banned in NZ

Surely if its legal the guards cant take it off you anymore than they can a can (:p) of beer...

Also may have to head into one of these places just to see how good they are...

If its in the head shop packaging, the most the gardai can do is take it away for testing after which point it must be returned to you. Now seeing as this takes a lot of time, most gardai will realise that it is legal and will let you off with a few wise words (has happened me 3 times). From what I have also heard from talking to a local head shop owner, some gardai are actually purchasing the legal "Smoke" for their own as it has nothing illegal in it that can be used against you in the event of a drugs test.

Aces, I've had smoke before and its actually not too bad strength wise. I was expecting something alot worse/weaker...

"Smoke" is a lot better than the likes of spice gold which just leave you feeling spaced out for hours afterwards...which isn't very nice

Just don't underestimate it if you are using a pipe, it does have a very nasty side to it as well

well certain ones will be taken away and tbh i havnt seen anyone get any back, i suppose you could go down and bitch at the garda station but i doubt they will bother or care about ur demand tbh. Kratom for example, in its resin form which is only available recently if you dont have it in the silver pack and just have it in its plastic it will be taken off you and away to the station you go to have your time wasted (this is because of how it looks tough as it is a black resin like substance!)

Smoke is actually a quite enjoyable alternative to illegal highs. i am very sceptical of herbs normally but this one seems to do the job! anyone know whats in it???

The ingredients of smoke can be found with a quick google search. Think they are listed on the Organic Worx website

I pop into the one in town whenever I'm close to it.

Never touch the "substances" they sell as in my view all of it is total muck, they do sell some nice paraphernalia though, and have a good bit of info on growing some nice plants.

@Smoke: Is the aya any use in the head shop? I haven't been able to find a decent quality branch anywhere. When you say it took 3 attempts to get the mix right does that mean the first 2 failed or was just weak?

It amuses me that drink driving is illegal while there's no law against smoking salvia and driving.....

BZP/TCMPP can be kind of interesting, kinda speedy/ numbing edge to them, but yeah the hangover/comedown ain't too nice for a lot of people so prob not worth it really even if you got 'em for free.
But most of the stuff is just junk in those shops unless your looking for some skins or a water bong or something along those lines.

Understatement of the year, think of someone pulling out all your veins, banging your head off a pavement and then leaving you in a cold puddle of water for the night....that's what the come down is like...keep well clear of them....

Actually, they don't know what's in smoke. One of the ingredients is "Shamanic Priest's Special Blend", which is pretty obviously some sort of research chemical they don't want to name.

Good for going on a night out dancing. It's an energy drink, but far, far beyond any normal energy drink. Red Bull doesn't even come close. This is because it contains Geranamine. Can cause one to become quite introspective. Can cause slight stomach discomfort or nausea, but that generally passes quickly. The effects are primarily caused by LSA alkaloids in the Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds extract they contain, which are chemically related to LSD, but induce a much milder trip.

Smoke
A nice "herbal" smoking mixture. Trippy yet sedating. Best not to overdo it, less is more with this stuff. Good for chilling with friends. The nice thing about it is its short duration. The trippy effects only last for 45 mins to an hour and a half and the sedating effects wear off after about 3 hours.

Salvia
Contains Salvinorin A, the most potent naturally occurring psychoactive drug known to man. Very short acting, usually 5-10 minutes, but sometimes up to 30 mins. Plunges you into a totally alternate reality, leaves you incapacitated, sometimes uncontrollably laughing for the duration of the trip, though some people do wander around a bit. It is highly recommended that someone supervises you whilst tripping, though it is unlikely that you would be capable of harming yourself in that state.

Poppers
Lol, sorta **** while sober, but it's the ultimate drug enhancer. Interesting to use when you're on almost any other drug, especially strong on weed. What's said about it being only for gays is a load of crap.

To that list I'll add Mescaline containing cactii like San Pedro or Peruvian torch. It's a very similar experience to acid. The downside being that it's horrible to ingest. Worth it though.
