vtec thanks for the groovy pics

Can I ask , does it come in firing at 325 or did you guys get them downgraded beforehand?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

Its a good looking gun, I suppose its got the same quality build as most current JG's?

Only problem I'd have with it is JGs only half-arsing the design as they've done with some other guns. If it looked fully like the real A3 I'd defo get it though.

yeah it has even better build quaiity than the usuall JG rifles, its up there with the high ends really.,
Its not exactly an accurate copy of the A3 but that wouldnt bother me too much, their all ugly anyway.,:)

Lads, I'll post a full review once I've played a full day with the AUG A3, but my initial impressions from testing are very, very good. It'll be my main AEG from now on without a doubt, and that's saying something since I'm very attached to my G36C (also a JG, albeit an older generation and with a more standard gearbox).

Thanks to Richie for a breakdown of the internals - believe it or not, I full intended to ask him to do this as part of my full review, because the gearbox is one of the highlights of this AEG.

    First impressions:
It looks better in the flesh than most photos that you might have seen, since they tend to be in-box, or lying somewhere, whereas the Steyr A3 photos are practially model photo-shoots, and look fantastic. The JG A3 does have a number of differences with the real steel A3, mostly because JG have just taken the A2 and modified it to look more like an A3 rather than creating original parts for accuracy (the front rails aren't quite right, the cocking handle is stock A2, and the top rail is clearly just an extended A2 rail; the A3 rail is solid, and closer to the body). It's a bit of a shame, but then again no manufacturer would create an original A3 and then sell it at that price, and this is why we refer to JG as a 'clone manufacturer'; for the time being, we're not going to see them create anything original. But the A3 is a sign that JG might try it soon.

It's heavy. 4kg. You really notice that straight away. The front end is heavy, I think it's largely metal, but it's balanced by the mechbox at the rear which I think might be heavier than many regular mechboxes - Richie, feel free to correct me on that. The finish is reasonable, although the barrel was wobbly initially, and the whole gun required some tweaking to be ready for play. This is an assembly issue and as JG get pricier, they would want to start sorting this out. Also, that gearbox is clearly intended for a high ROF, and a very strong spring. If you have a notion of importing one, know that if you don't get a downgrade, the installed spring will be good for taking down armoured cars. They're not big on 1J in JG.

I had 'my people' install a Guarder hop-rubber, and I put in a 9.6v battery (which required some body-work; it's designed to fit an 8.4 but that would have been a real waste of that mechbox). I should point this out, because it made a big difference to my impression of the performance of the gun. The Guarder rubber makes a big difference, and the battery really ups the ROF. I had a test firing at HRTA, just for teh lulz and I was impressed. Very, very accurate and the ROF was excellent.

It has the overall body length of my G36C, which makes it great for CQB, but the barrel length of most full size rifles, which gives it accuracy at distance. The only downside which I anticipate is the weight of the gun, which is reasonable but a lot more than the all-plastic G36C, and having to switch to the non-STANAG, non-clippable mags. At least I'll be able to carry more of them than with the G36 mags.

I'll be honest, this stands a good chance of usurping the JG G36C as a standard starter AEG, and out-performing it by a comfortable margin. I'd hate to think that the field will be flooded with these (there's a great feeling from having a piece that no-one else has) but there's a chance it might happen. At the very least, I think many AUG fans (they do exist, believe it or not) will look at getting one. It resolves several of the AUG's shortcomings, while retaining it's strengths.

    More when I've skirmished it.

kev have to say you have a lovely piece of kit there.

The accuracy was what impressed me most, and the rof is excellent.

I'm sure we will be seeing many more

Ok, you'll rip me apart for this, I'm the only A1 lover :(

Anyways, you were running a 9.6 yesterday yes? Well, to be perfectly honest the ROF on the CA A1 is quite noticeably higher as far as I remember, havent seen mine in a couple of months(Spray job under way). And, with maybe a few shims and bushings IMO it could take a 9.6. And, the CA A1 is running without a mosfet.

You lads stick with your "A3"s, but my preference will always be with my A1.

Oh, and I rembered, the gearbox DID NOT strip/jam during GatheringI, more was jammed by a rouge bb as I forgot the plastic cap over the bottom of the gearbox. New CAs fail, not old CAs(Ordered this one in 2006).

Id be very impressed if on unmodded A1 had a higher ROF than that A3, i used that in the shop with a fully charged 9.6 and it was a BB hose,., id say its easily faster than the other JG AUG models and i rate them much higher than the CA version from experience.,

I dunno, when I saw it at the range at HRTA yesterday the bettery may have been low.

Does Tony have the A3's in stock yet or is he still susing them out for quality before he commits to them?

Too much said, if you ask me. You'd actually need to have arms like an orang-utang to get around it. I have loads of very sick, unacceptable analogies for what using this would be like, and they're still not as bad as using it, itself.

I thcweamed and I thcweamed for it after I found out about it, he got me this one, and now I'm a one man testing and promotion team. And you all really will notice it when I'm playing, trust me.

Hi, I am really thinking about purchasing the AUG A3.

But I would like some help to decide on a few things. Can I change out the motor with a Systema Turbo motor? Is it a short type? Is to hard to get to the motor? Are there any web sites that help with the removal and install of the motor?

Does anyone know the lenght of the Inner barrel? And what kind of battery can I put into the stock (biggest)?

    Thanks in advance...

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭-PornStar-

This video shows you how to remove gearbox from the body.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dg9v9kFsRM

I think they are the short motor types alright, but I'm not 100% on that someone else will confirm it.

    The inner barrel is 509mm.

It takes the 8.4v mini type battery by default. But you can fit a 9.6v large with some modification. I haven't done that yet, though I would like to see a picture of that mod before I pick up a 9.6v, if someone would be so kind.

Does anyone if you can attach a silencer directly to the gun? Or is the RIS system in the way causing me to get a barrel extension then a silencer?
    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭-PornStar-

You can remove the flash hider and attach a silencer directly. It will sit relatively flush with the end of the RIS, no need for an extension. It has a 14mm negative thread.

Or you can get a HALO Gemtech silencer that fits onto the flash hider.
