Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi all,
just got quote for connectionto ESB - €1700. Power lines pass just in front of site so is not too bad I suppose...
However the nearest phone line seems to be about 600m away. Only one house (refurb. cottage) after us on the road and they don't have land-line in. anyone have any idea from personal experience of costs involved in getting land-line brought up to site or would i be better off researching different mobile bill options?!?!?:( Cheers

I have no idea what Eircom would charge for a fixed line other than standard installation. I am open to correction on this but I think I read somewhere that Eircom (being the incumbent provider) must supply you with a line and phone at a standard rate regardless of distance.

As I said Im open to correction but ring them and ask.

Our site is 185m back from the road so when we went about getting in a land line we were told that basically it doesn't matter how far along the road you are from the last line that eircom will bring the pole to you, in our case however once they left the side of the road it was our expense because its on our land-we would have to bear the cost of the extra poles down the drive or else put in pipes underground for them to run the cable through. As far as i remember the reason is that they are on our land and they then can't use them for any other house so thats why we have to pay for them. as long as you are on the side of the road you should be ok.

I find that eircom are impossible to deal with through their official channels, but local staff can be very helpful if you can approach them directly. The call centres often just give you a date, then a new date, and so on while nothing gets done.
