Well, the first car was my parent's '93 Ford Sierra diesel. Learned how to drive in a field on my uncle's farm. I was 15. This was it:

However, as for the first overall vehicle I ever drove, it was my uncle's 1950's Fordson Major Diesel tractor when I was 8.

A red Opel Kadett. I think it was from the 70s. Crashed it into a bush at very low speed. No damage done. It was a long time ago...around 1994 or so.

For most the 1st time you drive is in your mothers/fathers/aunts/uncles/cousin.. you get the gist.

Not in the 1st car you ever bought/owned.:)

In the 80's I had my 1st drive via my parents Ford Escort, then a few weeks later I got caught by the guards for driving on my own with no licence or insurance, but I got off with a 'stern warning', phew.

    A 98 Suzuki Grand Vitara.
My dads work jeep, nearly drove us off Killybegs pier.

No idea why my dad though a pier would be a good place to show me how to drive...

Chrysler Hunter 1.7HS complete with vinyl top, fake wood, quad headlights and chintzy alloy(-ish) wheels. It was the run-out Hunter model, specially prepared for Ireland where they were very popular (the Octavia/Jetta of it's day) and was about 10 years old by the time I got my hands on it.

First car I drove was my father's '95 Opel Vectra 1.6. It felt like a rocket :D Only took it around an empty car park in first gear. I was about 13 or 14 at the time.

Dad's car (same colour even ) on some quiet backroad. I was just 17, dreaming about getting driving lessons and constantly dropping hints about letting me have a go.

So, one day, out of the blue he did stop the car and said ..."now you drive, son" ....being my dad, he of course stopped it right on a steep hill

So my first ever car driving experience was a hill start ...eventually :D

I woulda been three when my dad let me drive his fourth generation corolla around Bull Island. Of course, he still controlled the pedals while I sat on his lap :D And every time he gave me control, I drove straight at Dublin Bay, and he'd have to stop me, line me up parallel to the coast, and let me go again :)

The next time after that, I was probably 12 or 13 in me ma's '88 Domino, on Rosnowlagh beach.

    Good thread.
