Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

no barry bannan or nathan delfouneso

    list is quite clearly broken

    02) FREDDY ADU, Attacker (UNITED STATES, Benfica) 02-06-89

We're supposed to have been looking out for him for a good 4 or 5 years now, he was supposed to be easily the best player on the planet by now.

I think there is a bit of "footballmanageritis" about the list.

Found this on another forum. It's taken from Spanish magazine Don Balon. Their top 100 rated players in the world born since 1987, in alphabetical order. It'd be interesting to look back on this thread in a few years.

    02) FREDDY ADU, Attacker (UNITED STATES, Benfica) 02-06-89

Much Adu About Nothing so far.

    Ill get my coat.....
    07) ANDERSON, Midfielder (BRAZIL, Manchester United) 13-04-1988

    lol.

Will either be with a mid level team in 10 years or will have become another John O`Shea (i.e. a mediocre player somehow hanging on to a world class team for donkeys years)
    61) LIONEL MESSI, Attacker (ARGENTINA, Barcelona) 24-06-1987

Will likely end up the greatest from this list.

    66) SAMIR NASRI, Midfielder (FRANCE, Arsenal) 26-06-1987

    Im still not sold.

Why the hell has Wenger not loaned him out by now?

Is your man El Affelay (sp) not within this age bracket? Reckon he could be a big name in a few years.

Considering there have been few if any truly world class American born players (with the possible exception of Brad Friedel, while world class is a heavy term certainly one of the EPL best keepers) there are quite a few tipped there.

Heh a lot of the players in eirebhoy's list are quality players in Football Manager too. Diego Buonanotte helped me get Preston to the Premiership. :pac:

From looking at the list I'm pleased to see Luis Suarez of Ajax there. I think he'll be a top player. Rakitic and Arda looked very good at Euro 2008 also.

Surprised by a few of the names though. Andy Carroll? Great in FM but in real life? Hmm not sure.

Just installed CM out of interest. :D Iniesta and Hleb aren't even in the game. :) Kaka looks pretty ordinary. Most of them are decent but it's not a bad list considering Essien was 18, Kranjcar was 16. Essien didn't move to Lyon until 2 years after that list was published. Same with Kaka to Milan.

Yeah, sure, and in the next 10 years a cheeseburger addiction will ensure Fernando Torres transforms from El Nino to El Fatso.

Wait, no, yours is still funnier.

I've just found out Kaka cost Milan just £6m. He was 21, was in Brazil's world cup winning squad a year earlier, he captained Brazil to the final of the Gold Cup scoring 3 goals, and he's one of the most naturally gifted and intelligent players in the world. Considering he was obviously rated highy 2 years before he joined Milan (if he's on that list) I just can't believe how small the fee was.

I always thought it was only £4.5 million, great value either way though

The fee was small because he nearly died wasn't it?

I hear what you're saying. Lucas Leiva is the that player the Kaka could have been. I hear ya, i hear ya!!

I think the order in that list is pointless commenting on.

Some really prolific South Americans that I never knew existed are in there: Luis Suarez, Moreno. Surprised they haven't been on Premiership radars.

    100. Alexander Hleb (AM, Stuttgart)

This makes for a fascinating read. I got some right giggles out of the mentions of players like Vignal, Djordjic and Chopra. Notice how many of the players have been at Liverpool; 5 out of the top 10 and only 1 has been a success! There must be a copy of this knocking about in the gaffers office at Anfield for Houllier and Benitez.

Ramon Calliste has no club for the last year and a half.

    Lol. What a retarted list.

I despise youth football and youth football players. When they make the first team then I like them.

    They forgot McGeady!

Pfft the list is flawed. No Daniel Sturridge.

Actually, why isn't Fabregas on the list?

Yeah, sure, and in the next 10 years a cheeseburger addiction will ensure Fernando Torres transforms from El Nino to El Fatso.

Wait, no, yours is still funnier.

It is certainly a repeated point of mine but "Anderson is God" sigs for a player who did little of note bar the CL final is nuts. One of two things this season, will either make a dramatic risen from the dead improvement or will be completely found out.

On a related (and repeated) note surely Nani is good enough for the 100 greatest young players list. If he gets regular starts and full games he will be dangerous, and it is amazing he has been written off as a bad buy so quickly. Maybe Ramos should look into taking him, though tbh it would be a backward steo for Nani, best to hang at Man U for at least another year and try to gain the respect he likely deserves.

Xavi, Cesc is on the list at 25 (alphabetically. Anywhre between 1 and 3 talent wise)

Ah I see, surely he should be under 'F'. Damn Spanish calling him Cesc.

Some really prolific South Americans that I never knew existed are in there: Luis Suarez, Moreno. Surprised they haven't been on Premiership radars.

Luis Suarez has been linked to Liverpool this summer, were even rumours we put in an unofficial bid (i.e "what would you say were we to draw up the paperwork and bid x amount"), but i dont know how truthful they are. Would love to see him at pool though, looks a great player. its only the dutch league so tough to tell, but his scoring rate is fantastic

Maybe it's just different standards but that vast majority of that list of players would be champions league standard. Hleb, Kaka, Berbatov, Iniesta, Essien, Ibrahimovic, Robben, Quaresma, Van der Vaart and Torres are rated as some of the best players in the world. I thought the failure rate on one of these lists would be much higher.

Did you watch United at the start of the season? Where him and Hargreaves dominated games as United's central midfield.

he got me 3 promotions in row with Rochdale! he sure could score in the lower divisions.

but back in reality land..... Sheffield Wednesday have a young fella called Mark Beevers (great name....) who is 18. could be a decent england centre half when John Terry hangs up the boots to become Chelsea manager...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Yeah that Beevers fella is meant to be quality. I expect a big club to 'snatch' him pretty soon :pac:

Jose Baxter at Everton supposed to be a good prospect. I have been watching his progress the last few years and nothing but good thing are said about him.

Whoever did the 2001 list didn't look far past Liverpool.

Sinama, Baros, Vignal, Le Tallec John Welsh.

What happened to the Calliste fella from United?

About 20m if I remember correctly!?

Moreno was also linked with Liverpool and Spurs (for about 1 day back in May). Think he ended up going to Schalke, too lazy to check it out though:p

    Anderson

Will either be with a mid level team in 10 years or will have become another John O`Shea (i.e. a mediocre player somehow hanging on to a world class team for donkeys years)

Are you serious? He has shown so much in his first season and when he was at porto too. Quality player..

Pennant was in that list (2000/01).

Pennant! Jermain ****ing Pennant. List is null and void after having him in it.

Plus you cannot have a 100 young players to watch for. That stupid. ****'s sake. Stupid list.

Arsene Wemger was convinced at the time. I think we can all agree that in general he is a better judge than you.

That kid's been linked with everyone from Barcelona to Blackburn and Real Madrid to Rangers, not to mention Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea etc.
Next year's SPL will tell a lot, you're right.
    He's only 17, isn't he?

Ferguson took Adu on trial and rejected him. I would trust his judgement.

In fairness, Ferguson took him on when he was 14 or so and wasn't judging him on the same criteria that he would have other 14 year olds. Adu would have been a franchise player in the MLS the next year so there's no way he would have accepted a youth contract at Man Utd so you've got to assume Ferguson was testing him for first team backup, he wouldn't have gotten a work permit anyway.

I've seen a decent bit of him for Benfica on Betfair TV and he is a really good impact player, like a left footed Wallcott
