    It's me again!
Alarm panel is showing up low battery. Bought house years ago with alarm already installed. Can you just buy a battery and replace yourself? Is it easy/hard? How? Is it costly? Live Northside Dublin.

    Would GRATEFULLY appreciate advice-instruction

    It's easy.
    BUT
Be very carefull not to let the terminals touch any part of the panel.
    >>> Also be very aware that there is mains voltage adjacent <<<<<<<
If you are not confident with this situation, don't attempt this!!

You MUST know the engineer code for the panel. (not the normal user code)
You enter the engineer code and hence put the panel in service mode.
Open the panel (if you don't enter service mode, this will set off the alarm).
Disconnect the old battery and put in the new one.
The battery is heavy and connected usually with two hand removable spade terminals. They just pull off.
It will just be sitting on the shelf in the panel unit. Simple to remove.
If you don't know the battery type then do the above twice.
First time to get out the old battery and go out and buy a new one.
Second to put in the new one.
Watch the battery polarity - the terminals will be colour coded.

Had the same problem last year. For my alarm, I just needed to open the control box. As soon as you open it, the alarm goes off. You need to get to the keypad and enter your regular code to turn it off.

After that, you can unplug the old battery and install the new one. I got mine in Mainscourt Electrical in Swords. Cost around €25 if IIRC.

As I said, other alarms may differ.

    AH! OK!
If you don't mind a little noise, you need only the normal user code.
But do BEWARE the electrics!! 230volts.

Thank you to BOTH of you. Hadn't a clue where to start and now know where to end up (hopefully not on the ceiling with 230v!!)
