    anyone know the best current account available for students at the moment?? I know Ulster Bank for example are offering 100E and a few discounts here and there if you open with them, anyone know of anything better?

    I would say shop around......below is the link to the cost comparison from the financial regulators office.

    But I would also take into account what banks have branches close to your college or where you are living. No point having an account with a bank if you can never get to a branch to lodge grant cheques or talk to the advisers should you need a loan or something!

    Most of the banks have people on campus around most induction weeks trying to sign up freshers, they all offer some pretty decent freebies. My advice is open accounts with as many as possible, get your free stuff and then choose which account you want to keep and close the others

    I kept my AIB account, never had any problems with them and customer service seems pretty good
