ok today i was asked if i would like to support the astma society. worthy cause you might say true. but the problem is that the guy wasnt selling the tickets that his permit allows him to sell, no instead he was holding out a buckek for me to drop my hard earned money into. the problem is that they wear bibs that say no donations on them but cleverly block this with the buckets. it was the same the other day with the child line bucket collection. the guy had photocopied info about childline and stuch it onto a bucket. it also said no donations on it but was being blocked buy the guys hand. this is daylight robbery. you constantly see old people emptining there pockets and the collector smiling. its a disgrace that people can get away with this. also it mostly non nationals doing this. there thats got it off my chest. boycot these parisites at all costs.

I usually ignore them anyway. Have you reported the matter to the Guards? They usually take that kinda thing very seriously.

You know those sticky labels you get in the postbox, they are meant to be he same thing. They don't use them for what they say on the sticker - take all your clothes off you and resell them for profit - Real Charity shops are raging about them. Your better of dropping everything into the charity shop that way you know they charity is getting them.

I passed a one last week outside homebase
and she said "Help support Cancer"!
I think that says it all about these collectors.

many moons ago I worked collecting for the ispcc, one of the collectors was a bit dim and would hold out her bucket and shout "Support cruelty to children"
She still made money, so I guess the moral of the story is that no-one looks or listens to the collectors:)

If ypu want to donate to charity, there are plenty of good ways of doing it, stay away from these unsolicitated people, I am not saying they are all bad but you never know, if you want to support a charity call them directly or go to their website and they will gladly help you out and you know the money is going somewhere good....

Was working in a local petrol station once, and there was a girl outside selling tickets for a cancer charity, but she was seriously harassing the customers to buy her tickets and was getting smart with people who were ignoring her, so several customers complained to the manager, manager went out to this "girl" and told her to move on that she wasnt welcome there and where was her permit, she told my manager to "F*ck off" and gave her a mouthful of abuse in front of everyone and wouldnt move on, told the manager to make her, the manager walked away from her to ring the charity herself, the "girl " then came into the shop looking to be served and when the staff looked at her she gave them a mouthful of abuse and threatened people in the shop, she had to be escorted off the premises, a complete nutjob, the manager rang the charity and so did i and other staff and the charity just said they would speak to the person in question....that was it....

A week later i was up in dungarvan and the same "girl" up there selling tickets...........I never bought a ticket ever again from charity and never will,

don't ever give money to the legitimate collectors on the street either. they are getting a good commission or wages out of all the money they raise. and they are really annoying too. if people give directly to charities, there'd be no need for these collectors. and consequently we wouldn't have the fake collectors then.

20 years ago I was getting 1/3 of all cash collected during the busy summer months and 40% during quieter times. I have no idea what the commissions are now.

I spend most of my lunchtimes dodging chuggers. One of these days they're going to catch me on a really bad day and I'm going to flip. :(

couple of weeks ago there was a guy outside penneys with a vest on saying support irish cancer society, and he was selling tickets, now i bought a ticket because it is the only charity i support (and the hospice) but when i got in the car and scratched the ticket it was for irish polio, it was too late then to go back but i was not one bit impressed. if i do see the guy again i will give him whats what.

on the issue of the stickers in the letterbox, i recently rang up the number on it to see was it ligit and a girl with an eastern european accent came on and got very flustered when i quizzed her where were the clothes going, who was recieving the stuff and how did it work, my family thought i was really mean but come on if this is being sold off for profit then im helping line someones pockets when i thought i was doing my bit for a genuine good cause.

suppose the thing is to be wary and not trust everything at first glance.
