My sister's prelude has no battery tie and it failed the NCT. On the tray itself, there are 2 loops on either side of the long sides (of the tray's rectangular shape) that I presume were part of the original tie mechanism but they're not aligned. There's about 2 inches in the difference between the loops on either side.

Is it simply a case of finding a new strap type thingy, tie it into the loops 0 and leave it go diagonally across the top of the battery or does neatness count? Are there any other rules that govern the straps ie, metal straps ets?

you can get a battery clamp, which consists of a flat piece of metal with a hole on either end, that sits on top of the battery, there are 2 threaded bars each with a loop on the end that hook into the holes in the battery tray.

    available at motor factors.

word of warning, cut off any excess bar, or you might dent the bonnet when you close it

as long as the battery is secured in position, that's enough
