Wow, I didn't even know you could get dual-SLI in a laptop...

A question though... there's 4Gb of RAM but 32-bit Vista can only access 3Gb? I understand that this 4Gb model is faster for memory access than a 3Gb model because of the dual channel? but you can't use the extra Gb (except for the speed boost) unless you install 64-bit Vista or 64-bit Linux?

    Ix.

I like your taste. Was looking at one myself but cant afford it. When I specced it up to what I want it was around 4500 with the discounts.

It's a lovely machine, you will not be disappointed.

I picked one up a couple of months back, availing of Dell's last quarter end offers.

They weigh a tonne and you'll have to pick up Dell's own backpack for it
as it's too big for 99% of laptop bags. They don't nickname it the Beast
    for no reason!

+1 I replaced my four year old Insprin 9200 with an M1730 last month and it makes that look feel like an ultra-portable - I'm very happy with it though, although looking at the size of the 230W adapter is like stepping back in time...

Gran Hermano (or anyone else), have you flown with the XPS backpack as hand luggae? Any problems with the size?

I really just use mine around the house as a desktop replacement.
Luckily I've also a M1330 for work and travelling - it's a lot easier to
lug around. Whilst I'll occasionally throw the M1730 into car boot
I can't see myself bringing it on a plane.

I've had people mistakenly think the official Dell bag for the M1730
is a suitcase :D It's a good laptop bag but looks like a piece of Samsonite
    luggage.

Is that the bag they recommend getting when you're configuring the system for €60?

If so that's sweet for €60

I didn't order it with the laptop as I had hoped to pick up a Crumpler bag.
As no Crumpler bag is big enough I had to order it later from Dell as a
seperate PO. I can't find the part number but the description on the
invoice is "Large Nylon XPS Backpack KIT"
List price at the time was over EUR 100 for the bag.

Ricky or anyone: can this laptop be used as a true desktop replacement? In particular, will it hold its own on the gaming front? I need to replace my desktop (AMD 64x2 4200+, 2GB Ram, 9600GT graphics) and want something that will handle Crysis and anything else I throw at it for the next few years - but don't need the absolute bee's knees or 3DMark champ or anything, am happy to play games as long as they look good, don't need to max out all graphical options...
