Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Car tax out of date - written off the road?

Ok so i don't know what to do here.
My car tax has been out of date since December and i honestly never noticed (i know sounds like excuses but i'm not the most observant or organised person to keep an eye on these things) but i went travelling for 4 months in April and decided that it would be esiest to get the car written off the road while i was gone. I was told that i can't pay for the time between Dec and April so will i have to get the car written off the road from Dec??? If so will the Gardai ask to see my travel tickets/passport stamps etc to prove my dates or what happens?

Any help or advice is much appreciated, thanks a million :)

Anyone I know who's gotten a car written off the road by the Gardai has never been asked for proof. If you go into a Garda station and they won't sign the form try a different one.

Not at all. Go into your Garda station with some cock and bull story about the car being off the road. They might make some kind of a half a55ed effort to ask you why it was off, but they really don't give a flying sheeet. They'll just sign the form and get on with their day.

I've done it three times in the past. I once had 18 months road tax written off by one foul swoop of a nice Ban Garda's pen. I was hardly 2 words into my long elaborate story about why the car was off the road when she had it signed, stamped and was half way accross the room to get on with something more important.

The Gardai are witnessing your signiature, not verifying that the car was off the road. The Motor tax office could follow up on that. I hope you haven't got any tickets or fines during that time ;)

SPOT ON. The whole idea of having a car "writen off the road" is an urban myth.

Porkies. You get several reminder letters and after 3 months you get the final reminder letter where you can state the car is permantly off the road or scrapped or sold or whatever. No need to go to the Gardai any more. If you do with that form, the tend not to ask questions, but:

Indeed. If you get caught, you face serious consequences.
