If you were to recommend just ONE song to anybody that wasn't feeling too happy with themselves/life, what would that song be?

P.s. Mods, I hope this thread doesn't get moved to the music forum because, tbh, that's not really my target audience with this question.

    Cheers.

"You're the best around" - Joe Esposito

    Try to be best
    ‘Cause you’re only a man
And a man’s gotta learn to take it

    Try to believe
    Though the going gets rough
That you gotta hang tough to make it

    History repeats itself
    Try and you’ll succeed

Never doubt that you’re the one
And you can have your dreams!

    You’re the best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
    You’re the Best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
    You’re the Best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

    Fight ‘til the end
    Cause your life will depend
On the strength that you have inside you

    Ah you gotta be proud
    starin’ out in the cloud
When the odds in the game defy you

Try your best to win them all
and one day time will tell
when you’re the one that’s standing there
    you’ll reach the final bell!

    You’re the best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
    You’re the Best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
    You’re the Best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ho-how-ho-own

    INSPIRING GUITAR SOLO

    You’re the best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
    You’re the Best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
    You’re the Best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

    Fight ‘til you drop
    never stop
    can’t give up
Til you reach the top (FIGHT!)
you’re the best in town (FIGHT!)
    Listen to that sound
A little bit of all you got
    Can never bring you down

    You’re the best!
    Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
    You’re the Best!
    Around!

repeat to fade, occasional background shouts of “Oh Ye-eah!”

William Shatner - You'll have time

    Live life
Live life like you're gonna die
    Becasue you're gonna
I hate to be the bearer of bad news
    But you're gonna die

Maybe not today or even next year
But before you know it you'll be saying
    "Is this all there was?
    What was all the fuss?
    Why did I bother?"

Now, maybe you won't suffer maybe it's quick
But you'll have time to think
    Why did I waste it?
    Why didn't I taste it?
    You'll have time
    Because you're gonna die.

Yes it's gonna happen because it's happened to a lot of people I know
My mother, my father, my loves
The president, the kings and the pope
    They all had hope

And they muttered just before they went
    Maybe, I won't let go
Live life like you're gonna die
    Because you are

Maybe you won't suffer maybe it's quick
But you'll have time to think
    Why did I waste it?
    Why didn't I taste it?
    You'll have time
    'Cause you're gonna die

I tell you who else left us
Passed on down to heaven no longer with us
Johnny Cash, JFK, that guy in the Stones
Lou Gehrig, Einstein, and Joey Ramone
    Have I convinced you?
    Do you read my lips?
This may come as news but it's time
    You're gonna die
    You're gonna die

By the time you hear this I may well be dead
And you my friend might be next
    'Cause we're all gonna die

Yeah, oh maybe you won't suffer and maybe it's quick
But you'll have time to think
    Why did I waste it?
    Why didn't I taste it?
    You'll have time
You'll have time cause you're gonna die
    Yes, you're gonna die
You're gonna die, I tell you
    You're gonna die
    You are gonna die

'Cause maybe you won't suffer maybe it's quick
But you have time to think
    Why did I waste it?
    Why didn't I taste it?
You'll have time 'cause you're gonna die

    Live Life
Life life like you're gonna die
    Because you're going to
    Oh yes
I hate to be the beater of bad news
    But you're gonna die

Maybe not today or even next year
But before you know it you'll be saying
    "Is this all there was?
    What was all the fuss?
    Why did I bother?
    Why did I waste it?
    Why didn't I taste it?"
    You'll have time, baby
    You'll have time
    'Cause you're gonna die
    You are gonna die
    Oh yeah

Yeah You're The Best definitely. I just put it as my flashbox earlier today!

    And Shine by Take That.

Or The Crying Machine by Steve Vai!

Pretty much anything by The Polyphonic Spree or The Flaming lips. I'm pretty sure that if all manic depressives listened to the Polyphonic Spree they would be cured.

Ah man I do like some Satch alright, but Vai blows him outta the bowl of Coco Pops and puts him back in the milk carton.

Yeah he was ****ing ****e live tbh, I didn't enjoy it at all, apart from Stu Hamm. He rocked. MIssed Gilbert though, that sucked...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,866 ✭✭✭Adam

    Yeah, Hamm is legend! :D

Gf got me an Evo Experience ticket the second time I saw Vai(last gig). That night was made of awesome!

Another song, Sick Puppies - All The Same

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,008 ✭✭✭Bijoux

Just to go with their general mood, I would recommend Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd...

To cheer them up, it's got to be Sunscreen by Baz Luhrmann...it's epic! :D

Hamm just had the whole crowd going even though everyone had probably heard it 1,000,000 times on the DVDs.

Man what's Evo Experience? I'd love to see Vai live, when he played last I just wasn't into guitar at all, if only he had come a few years earlier. I hope he plays again soon though.

Paravonian - Pachonbel skit on YouTube, check it outtt!

I'm pissed off right now and none of your suggestions are making me feel any better

I think I'll stick with "Ride of the Valkyries" and go break other peoples things to cheer me up.

It seems so hard to stay so positive
    I know how it feels
It just takes time something's gotta give
    Don't let the negative
Steal the blue out of the sky
    Don't leave it all behind

This is life this is it
    It's not everything you want
It's everything you get believe it
    It's not worth leaving
Yea this is life once again
It's been knocking at your door
You ought to let it in
Don't waste it it's time you faced it

    It seems like years
    Since you've known happiness
    So down so long
    So calm your fears
And you'll get out of it
    Just hang on

So this is life this is it
    It's not everything you want
It's everything you get believe it
    It's not worth leaving
Yea this is life once again
It's been knocking at your door
You ought to let it in
Don't waste it it's time you faced it

    Why do you cry?
    Why do you cry?
Steal the blue out of the sky
    Don't leave it all behind

    This is life once again
It's been knockin at you door
Don't waste it it's time you faced it
This is life this is it
    It's not everything you want
    It's everything you get believing
    It's not worth leaving
Yea this is life once again
It's been knocking at your door
You ought to let it in don't waste it
    It's time you faced it
    This is life
    This is life
Don't let it pass you by, pass you by
    It's time you faced it
It's time you turned around and faced it

Lyrically, I think this is a good one. However, circumstances vary. Sometimes just hearing a song you loved in the good ol' days is just what the doctor ordered.
