What ever happened to VideoPlus+? Videoplus codes are the string of digits that you see on the TV listings page that you input into your vcr or dvd recorder and the recording settings are then automatic

This was one of the great home entertainement inventions of the 90's ---- no more fussing about with VCR handbooks...

Where has it gone...only a handful of manufacturers still actually offer it? For such a seemingly good invention...why is it fading into oblivion?

    always worked for me....

I presume the reason is because it's no longer any use in a world of sky/cable boxes which don't play nice with videos...

It got replaced by EPGs as most people migrated from VHS to PVRs.
Much easier to scroll through an on-screen list of programs and decide
what you want saved to a hard-drive.

Not true, you also get an EPG with UPC/NTL Digital, with freeview satellite or DTT. You can also use GuidePlus with many cable services.

Sky+ FTW - no more scrambling around in old newspapers for the videoplus code - of course you had to buy the paper first as well :).

Love 'em or loathe 'em, Sky got something right with Sky+.

Some newer HDD recorders now have Guide+, which has seemingly replaced Videoplus+

However, it seems to be rather awkward to get to work in Ireland.

I'm pretty sure the TV Times website provided videoplus codes alongside
    the program listings.

Guideplus is on the Sony HDD boxes (great machines) and I've managed
to set it up using location as a Northern Irish postcode during setup.

Worked very well for me on 2 vcr's I used to have.

I'd say so. It's usually a code of numbers at the end of the programme description.

You'll notice that primetime shows on channels like BBC1 or ITV have much shorter codes than that of RTE or TV3.

What address info you use? I have a HX970 and the epg did work fine the last time I checked, but sometimes it doesn't?

I'm pretty sure DVD recorders still use this. Sky+ is a great machine, well worth the money.

was on our first VCR, but tbh, found the programer function easier to use
