Just found out yesterday that Goodwins Timber Frame, Carlow is going into liquidation. Luckily we received our timber frame from them 4 weeks ago but included in our order were doors, arcitrave & skirting costing over €8k, not due to arrive for another few months.

What are the chances of us getting the rest of our order?

Also were do we now stand in relation to our guarantee etc?

The Goodwin Group, a builders’ providers and timber-frame housing company, is closing two timber-frame factories with the loss of 90 jobs.

The company is closing its manufacturing facilities in Carlow and Cardiff as a result of the marked slowdown in the property sector. The operating company behind the timber-frame division will be placed into liquidation in the coming days.

Established in 2001, Goodwin’s Timber Frame became one of the largest producers of timber-frame housing, making up to 4,000 units a year for the British and Irish markets. The division had revenues of about €20 million last year.

Chances of getting the rest of your order might be between slim and none. If you paid by credit card, you could try a chargeback. Otherwise, you'll have to wait and see if there's anything left for you at the end.

Unfortunately we had to pay by bank draft, we had no option not to pay for doors, it all had to be paid when timber frame arrived!

Get down there quick , if the work is in progress , eg CUT TO ORDER , they may finish it off for a few quid on top or give it to you as is , its worthless to anyone but you .

    But get down there quick.

    this seems like practical advice.

It's all locked up, fully finished timber frame houses are inside but no one is there. They told workers they were closing, gave them 30mins to leave. It's been closed since then, just before the builders holidays. We didn't find out until Business Post on Sunday. How do you contact liquidator?

Goodwins actually has gardai protecting the premises and the owner has gardai protecting his house! Staff not too happy!

Sounds odd literally closed up with no warning in 30 mins...

It's not uncommon - look at what happened with Habitat.

I just meant odd that they closed down everything all at once even their UK manufacturing site.

These doors are made for your house specifically.
Unfortunately, once a liquidator has been appointed, these doors & fittings belong to the liquidator. The liquidator's responsibility now, is to get the best price for all the company's property (including your doors & other fittings).
If you think that these items are only useful for your home, you should contact the liquidator and see if they will agree to sell these to you (at a price higher than they would get at an auction) but cheaper than if you have to get them somewhere else.
I'm sorry that this has happened to you.
Another approach is to see if this company was bonded - if so, you may be able to claim the money.
    Best of luck OP.

If the doors and architraves were actually finished and identified as yours, they may actually be your property. You have paid for them, you own them, they were just storing them for you.

The problem is that they probably haven't started work on them yet. If they have, it may not be clear from the labels that they belong to you.

This is a big 'if'. There are a lot of legal issues around title in a situation like this. But it is worth a try. Make sure that the liquidator is in no doubt that these items are fully paid for, and claim that if they exist, that they belong to you. It would of course be a big help if you had some evidence that they do actually exist.

Where would i find out if they were bonded? It doesn't mention it in the contract.

My husband is contacting our solicitor today to see if he can help us.

I'm not sure if the doors are ready and made for us already as they weren't due to arrive until we were nearly at the end of the build, in Oct.

We were talking to the salesperson who we were dealing with, he's now at a different timber frame company, he can't even access his belongings in the factory, he was away on work business the day they closed. They had no notice at all.
